I sort of found this site by accident and am sure glad I did.  I think I am the only Spencer shoooter in 100 miles of where I live.  My Spencer is a very early #403 Taylor that I bought just because i alwasy wannted a Spencer.  It is currently in 45 S and W but I am debating changing it to 45 Colt as I see they are now acvailable in that chambering.  I don't know if I have bbeen lucky or what but I have had no problems with feeding or accuracy in my rifle.  I am currentlyy shoooting a RCBS 255 grain bullet of 1-30 tin and lead and 27 grinas of FFFg Schutzen powder.  Accuracy is just as good as i can hold out to 100 long steps.  Of couse the Spencer is no good for Cowboyy shooting the way the matches are now set up, and it won't keep upp with the Springfield at the local 200 yard riflle matches but it is sure fun to play with and with factory wimp loads it is a great turkey and rabbit gun.

Hey KCSO,

Thanks for joining SSS.  With every new member, the Marshal of CasCity sends me a check for $100.00 ::) ::) ::)

I, too, shoot a .45 Schofield Spencer.  And like you have never had a problem with it; no jams; no misfires.  KSCO?  What do the letters stand for, just curious.

Thanks for joining!

Most of the issues that are talked about relate only to Armisport 56-50 Spencers. Other cartridge chamberings apparently have different dimensions and rifling twists.

I looked at a 56-50 but since I had no specific purpose in mine for this gun and since here in Nebraska even the 56-50 is not legal for deer I didn't see that it was necessary to spend a lot of money on ammo.  I also knew that if I went with a 56-50 I would not be happy with a 1-20 twist and that would mean I woulld be rebarreling it right away.  But I do have a nice 1-32 50 caliber blank out iin the shop and after all Cap Roundtree had a Spencer so...
