knucklehead

this is my 2nd attempt at making this holster.
after leaving the first holster alone for 1 day, and going back to it the next day it just didnt sing to me.
so this is my 2nd attempt at a shoulder holster for my 1911 gov model.

its only the front piece thats been toolled. i still need to color both pieces and sew together.
then i will finish the sides that the straps will attach to.

this holster will sit sideways to the body under the arm. at least thats my plan ;)

almost forgot happy turkey day to everyone

Looks like an interesting project. It looks like you used a chisel of some sort for the stitching holes. If so, is that something you typically do? And if so, could you tell me what size?

Thanks, JD

JD i use the stitch hole maker that tandy leather factory sells.
i have both the 4 prong and single prong.

i have tried to use the stitching awl and im all thumbs at it.
now i just use this tool.
on items that the stitch line is not straight i use the 6 holes per inch overstitch wheel to mark the holes.
then use the single prong stitch punch.

after i glue everything together and get ready to finish the stitch holes i will use my dremel with 1/16" drill bit.

the single stitch hole punch is #8065 crafttool diamond hole single punch
the 4 prong stitch hole punch is #8067 Craftool Diamond Hole Punch 4 Prongs 1/8

This'll be a good-looking holster. Looking forward to the finished pics.

Thanks Knucklehead, I have both of those, and have used them for stitching on practice pieces. I'm sure glad to hear someone uses these, 'cause I sure don't do well trying to use just an awl to make the holes.
