WTB Starr SA Replica
« on: November 21, 2008, 09:10:40 AM »
I know this is not a Starr forum, but I have tons of OT and 1860's as well. Would like to find a used Pietta Starr Single Action to plink with and to maybe use for Frontiersman. PM me or contact me at oscarlovel@bellsouth.net

Thanks!

P.C., are you familiar with the Starrs? I had a SA and what a TOTAL POS it was. I have a friend who has originals and he said they suffered from the same problems, e.g., locking up when you look at it wrong, SOB to load as rear of cylinder has rounded knob & will not balance nor sit flush, etc. IMO save your money unless you want a wall hanger.

Nooooo, I use mine as main match guns on occasion. They are very durable, although finicky at times. Recoil is very mild, even with 35 gr powder.
As far as having trouble loading the cylinders, they load just fine in the gun, where they were designed to be loaded.
They are not as fast as a Colt or Remmy, but they do shoot fine, and look good to boot. There are only 3 parts inside I think that move, and disassembly is a breeze.
They do lock up on ocassion, but once you are used to them, I havent had the problem as much.
I got mine in a Cabelas bargain basement for 200 or so apiece.
If you can borrow one, try it out. They are fun for sure.
Heres a pic of mine.
