Lyman New Army

I just picked this up. I have owned one in the Navy configuration before, but traded it and some moola for an original Remington New Army.

The Navy had the original type grip bushing on the "female" side just like this one. The grips are nicely fitted, the hammer is hand checkered, the overall fit and finish is FAR better than the currently produced pistols

So who actually made the gun? Lyman is the importer. The lighter frame suggests it is an Uberti or Euroarms but the non dovetail front sight (fixed post) suggests a Pietta. Might it be an ASM (Armi San Marco)?

I have a Lyman that looks just like it in 36 cal. It is a Uberti, has a fixed sight and lever lug, no dovetails.

The dovetailed front sight is rather recent in the Uberti, I have anb older one without the dovetail.

I believe it is Uberti manufacture. I'll check the cylinder length to be sure and post back on here. I gotta tell you though that the fit, finish, and overall look and feel of the pistol is far superior to the current Uberti ones

I have a Millington conversion done on a Uberti and I always wondered how he got the lines on the frame so even and crisp. Must be one like this!

I can't wait to start the "extreme" makeover on this old gal

I gave the old girl quite the inspection tonight and SHE LIKED IT

It is definately a Euroarms. Gave it the side by side test with about a dozen of my other remmy's. This one has a nice grip that is much more correct than the new Euro's. Still a tad tight behind the trigger guard tho

The front sight is shorter than the new Piettas at about .330. Also the web on the rammer is wavvy from poor buffing.
Kool thing is all of the parts (barrel, cylinder, loading lever, grips, etc) are hand stamped (numbered) with an assy number different than the serial number.

I have an old Navy Arms kit gun that is real nice and it is a Euroarms too (but has the old stupid trumpet shaped grip). It has a high front sight, slightly nicer hand checkered hammer and a rammer that is better looking.

I can already see the writing on the wall for a new conversion project!

Owned a Lyman New Model Army about 10 years, untill '87 & I should have never given it up. It was manufactured by Euroarms, which is the closest any Repro manufacturer has Ever gotten to this Size, Weight, Fit & Feel of an Original.
