I am in the market for a new Coach Gun. Seems the Stoeger is about the only game in town. If there are any OWNERS of the coach guns or Uplander model I would like to hear from you. How many rounds have you run through them? Any issues? I am looking for a short 20 gauge. I understand that the Stoeger isn't the upper end as doubles go but they are used for Cowboy action shooting so I figured there would be at least a few people with an intimate knowledge of this gun. I want one with double triggers. Could I figure to get at least 5K rounds through them?

Stoegers are good, reliable shotguns and should last a long time.  You might also look at the TTN coach guns with external hammers sold by EMF, Cimarron and Taylors.  They are a tough reproduction of the Colt 1878 shotgun.

I own one and would not get rid of it for anything. It functions as good as my Savage 311C which is flawless. I have about 600 rounds thru it and it has not failed me yet. I keep the chambers "clean" during a match and the empties just fall out. I have 6 doubles and this is my favorite.

For the money you would be hard pressed to find a better shotgun.  I have used a 20" 12 gauge for over two years now with NO problems. The only work I have done to it is convert the safety to manual, reduce the break spring, and cone and hone the chambers.

I shoot both black powder and smokeless thru it and it doesn't care.  It is a great reasonably priced shotgun.

No problems with our Stoegers (20 and 12 gauge) other than some of the cheaper brands of shells won't shuck. I've found the Remmington STS, which is a smooth shell, shucks ever time.

I used a Stoeger Coach Gun for 10 years. For 3 matchs a month, squirrel hunting and dove hunting. I have no idea how many shells I put through it, likely into the thousands. Anyway the barrels came loose where they join the chambers. I'd get another if I needed a third shotgun. I got my money's worth out of my old one.

Stoeger is a good entry level shotgun, however it is prone to a couple of problems. The main one is, if you have an action job done make sure it is done by someone that understands the Stoeger. Just a little too much and the barrels will pop open after you fire one round, and the lugs can be weak enough to crack. There is a fix for it discussed at Marauders Homestead, I had the "pop open" happen to two different Stoegers, very frustrating. The other problem and easily resolved is soft firing pins. I had both items fixed and they both served me well, I just never liked how the Stoeger felt, sort like a 2x6. I now use the single trigger Charles Daly 306, only now the went defunked and there are no parts to be had. The Remington Spartan is a good one if you can find them. If you really want top of the line the SKB is hard to beat, but you're looking at $1000 fixed up. It's a shame every time they make decent gun like the Spartan or Charles Daly they quit making them, at least you can count on the Stoeger. Good Luck

Yeah, I'm still looking for someone local to slick up my Spartan a bit. Mostly I want it to stay all the way open for quicker reloads.

Shotgun, I sent mine back to Nate Kiowa Jones at Stevez Guns , and my personal feeling is that if he can slick up a Baikal he can slick up anything ... *S*

Originally I wanted to use my Dads old Ithaca but my cousin wound up with it in trade with my Dad years before.
I had used an old Fox 311 loaner for several years, but need to return it.
So I bought a Stoeger C G in 2000,  needed a little smoothing. After about 3-4 years, I wanted a Hammer gun I sold the Stoeger
( happy to say I got my purchased price back  ;) )

I bought a TTn in 04 from Walt Johnson , I've have 0 issues ,very pleased with it.
