Purchase a Mason-Richards or use the 1860 army Kirst conversion

Hi All,

I've been wanting to obtain a 1860 Army Mason-Richards conversion for my SASS matches and have been considering either buying the Uberti M-R (in 45LC) or converting an 1860 Army using the Kirst conversion.

Any thoughts?  I'm leaning toward the Kirst conversion - I have a Navy I've converted (cut the slot and tuned) and am quite happy with it, but I'd like to hear from someone who's done a conversion on an 1860 army.  Also is the 1860 conversion SASS legal?

I've also heard that the Uberti M-R revolvers are inconsistent and usually require some work.

Any guidance would be appreciated,

PvtGreg

Also is the 1860 conversion SASS legal?  Absolutely ...my two Richards are my main match guns
Kenny Howell and USPFA Type I 's

I also have an R&D conversion Cyl.  2nd Gen BPS Colt & a Cimarron Richards & Mason Navy ....

I do not have a W. Kirst, reason being at the time, I wanted one, Willam swore he'd never make an 1860 Conversion.

My very favorite is my BPS 2nd Gen. I've owned it 30+ years, shot heavy and converted it in 2005, course it can easily revert to C&B ...

Now, I'm also very fond of my two Type I's with their gates .... and tend to shoot them more because of the loading gates

As to the R&M I like it fine, and out of the box it was nice, I got it in a trade from a good friend.
Being a 38 it is out of battery with the 44 Richards & 45 BPS so it will be a back up for a while, I suspect I'll get another
That said, however I still decided to have Longhunter work their magic.
I'll let you know when it returns ( pehaps this week )

when planets align...do the deal !
