Oddly enough, I got a couple infected messages

I recieved a couple of messages today in my email from Marshall Cas City. Both of them had exe attachements and my program identified the messages as infected with something called W32.Beagle.BA@MM. I know the Marshall has probably left town for Las Vegas, but it seems something got into the address book and sent the infected things out.
I mention this not as an alarm, but to caution my pards to be durned careful opening exe attachments and what the heck is going on right now, I have no clue.
It takes so long to fix up a sick confuser, that I thought I should mention what happened.

A little more info...

This is a mass-mailing worm with the following characteristics:

    * contains its own SMTP engine to construct outgoing messages
    * harvests email addresses from the victim machine
    * the From: address of messages is spoofed
    * contains a remote access component (notification is sent to hacker)
    * copies itself to folders that have the phrase shar in the name (such as common peer-to-peer applications; KaZaa, Bearshare, Limewire, etc)

Foothills Drifter, I don't know what you said, but I understand it  I am for one pretty unknowledgeable about the ways and means of personal computers. I am still trying to grasp the realm. Unfortunately, I have no teen aged kids living next door to help me out  I do thank folks like yourself that help me understand a bit better. Some of my good pards have helped me over the 6 or 7 years I have had a PC. Ruff Justice even made a house call when I was really having some problems. One thing I have beefed up is my virus security and have installed spyware also. Then I also have a program that erases my tracks when I close the browser.
I wonder why in the world sometimes. For instance I am trying to figure why I got the emails and it does not seem that anyone else did. Which makes me feel as wooden headed as can be for even mentioning it. I still figure if I can save one other cowboy from having to deal with a virus, then it would be OK. I certainly never want to start a stampede or cause trouble.
Thanks for taking the time to research the evil thing. I appreciate it pard, and I hope to see you a shoot nearby in the near future. I'll buy

I used ta get that stuff a while back. I changed ISP's, (to Cox.net) I got a couple through their system,they notified me it was happining and took care of it on their end. I no longer use Internet Explorer,I now use FOXFIRE (do a search) I no longer use Outlook Experss,I use INCREDIMAIL. A whole lot more options and good filtering (Marshal Hollaway told me about this..he uses it!) My antivirus is NORTON 2004. I played with all the settings and it works for me. Your milage my vary....

Now that ya live closer to Norco,you can come down and shoot with The Cowboys on the 4th Sunday. If you do....look me up on Posse 7. An now that you are in Bakerfield,if you ever need any hay,look up Ed Erro Hay Co. (ask for Ed Jr.) He is married to my Niece. Tell 'em Vern from Lakeside sent ya.

Foothills Drifter, I have actually gotten another and this time I am saving it unopened and I might ask the Marshall about it when he gets back from Sin City. I can't figure why I am singled out. You would think others in Marshall Holloways address book would have gotten one too. I have good protection, so I can catch stuff before I infect my 'puter. My virus program scans when I send too.
Ed Erro? Yeah, I remember him. Had a bunch of cabover peterbilts painted red and all duded up. I had forgotten all about his outfit. I have no animals left anymore and have turned cityfied  These days I just rather enjoy other folks horses and pets. It got way too much for me when the kids grew up and left. Shhhhh. Don't let it get around, but I actually live in a brand new housing tract now. I will make Norco before long. I am anxious to try out all the SoCal clubs. I am thinking about W3G at Piru too. Only thing that holds me off is that I feel pretty small shooting slow with the crowd that has taken that up.

Thankx for the reply. I may not see 'infected' emails because they might be deleted befor they are displayed (I will have to check my configuration)
There is a chance you might see me in October at the State (?) shoot at 5 Dogs Creek. I just might make it this year  (I get free room & board)
To bad Ed Erro don't have no International's. I work for Dion International Trucks in San Diego. Been in the business for 33 years.

5 Dogs isn't hosting the Ca. St. Championships this year. I don't know the details. They are having their annual in the spring this year. Check your CC.
You might remember that some years back you mentioned working for IH and that I work in service
for truck dealers.
