Has anyone, who have used the above mentioned powders, had any problems with misfires?  Or, any problems with inconsistent powder ignition.

IMR-4198    25-30 grs  range

H4895       33-35.5 grs  range

All loadings with either 300gr jacketed or cast bullets.. standard LR primers (CCI).. thanks

I have been using 4198 for almost a year and a half in my Uberti with powder charges from 26 to 31 grains behind a 321 gr RCBS GC bullet and have never had a missfire.  I have also used it for years in my 45-70s and never had a problem.  You might want to check to make sure that the firing pin shaft is not binding and thus not hitting the primer with enough force.  Just a thought.  See my post on the 45-60 Reloads thread.

Hi, RedBaron.

I am not exactly sure what you mean by "misfire." :-\  Can you provide a bit more information?

I have used both H4198 and H4895 and have had no problems with either.

Misfire..primer goes off....powder does not ignite...most of the powder stays in case..unburned...bullet moves just inside the rifling..easily removed with wooden dowel.  Extremely aggravating. This has only happened with these two powders and the mentioned loads. I have loaded several hundred rounds with the usual loadings using 5744, and never had any problems.  Appreciate the replies.

Odd indeed. ???   Outside of bad batch of primers or very old powders, I have no ideas! :-\

I have loaded IMR 4198 with Excellent results . How do you lube your cases ??? could your case lube possibly be contaminating your powder ?

I had the same problem with H-4198.  It was suggested by another shooter who had had the same problem to switch to Mag primers and "work" back up.
Sincerely,

Hobie
