I am considering dropping my powder amount from 24g to 18-20??g in an effort to improve my groups.  At present at 25 yards I am getting about 3 inch groups.  Do you guy's think this might help?  Also I sometimes find they group to the right of the target.  Could I be anticipating the shot too much?
Pistol: .44 1858 Remington (Euroarms)  Balls: .454 Hornaby,  Lubed wads,  Powder Hogdon 777.

Only way to find out if it will help is to do it.  Every gun is different, every gun has a different favorite load.  Give it a try.

Are those groups being fired "off hand", or are you shooting them off a rest? If yer firing groups off hand you may be pulling the shots that are grouping off center. ( and yes, it's possible to pull yer shots off froma rest too unless you are carefull about your shooting technique)

I always check accuracy and groups from sandbag rests, because my normal shooting technique makes me tend to shoot low and left when firing off hand. :-[ (I an overcome this tendancy, but it takes concentration on my part, during a match it's not unusual to see me hitting the steel low& left! :o)

You might also want to try some lube in front of the bullit
and maybe replace the lubewad with grit?
15ggr and some grit .454 round lead ball then lube
is what my friend uses in his MLAIC matches.
Personaly i use 28ggr no filler same bullit and grease.
He  don' beat me everytime ;D
But ill run out of powder long before him :P

Off hand Cuts.  Double handed stance usually bang on the black.
Am I correct here, as 777 is roughly 25% more powerful than black powder 18g should equate to around 22g of black powder?  This lighter load than I normally use might improve my groupings - thinking aloud here guy's, however I might get a slight delay as the charge is lighter?  May make things worse?  Going to give it a go this week no harm in trying...

My Rem 44 likes 18grs of real black powder, with grease pack over the ball. There is no delay with that lite of a load. It is a little soft on faller downers.

Trying 18g of 777 tomorrow night let you know how I got on.  First 12 rounds with wads I think then I'll try it without wads as you do.

Well tried 18g 777 gun was better to shoot, more control, and groups tightened up.  The other plus I'll get more shots for my money..
