Saw the "Sheriff's Special" model on the USFA web site and called them today.  Here is a link to the web page;

Gary stated that these guns are being sold exclusively through Davidson's, with an initial run of 50 guns being made.  More may be made if sales warrant it - sounds like it will be pretty much up to Davidson's.
With a suggested retail of $875, it looks to me as if you are getting a lot of special features for the money.  Faux ivory, long fluted cylinder, special cylinder pin and screw and the Bisley style hammer.  I figured that $875 price must have been a misprint.  It's not!  I headed over to my dealer this morning and had him place an order with Davidson's.  My dealer quoted me a price of $839 + tax.
Couple of interesting things on the web site regarding this gun.  Faux ivory grips are advertized as being "aged US ivory," not "Tru-Ivory."   These guns have a small "US," in a circle, stamped on the left side of the frame where Colt would put the pony.  Nice touch, I think, and something that was suggested here on the board some time back (not that that had anything to do with it).  The web site also suggests that this is the first of possibly more Custom Shop special edition guns being produced in celebration of USFA's 15th anniversary.
My only regret is that they made this gun with the 3" barrel.  I would have preferred the 4" but what the heck!  I think that Bisley style hammer is just perfect on the Sheriff's model.  Bet Colt wishes they had thought of it!

Nice looking gun, but I doubt that hammer would be SASS legal.

As luck would have it, I don't want it for SASS, I just want it. ;D

I wonder what "aged US ivory"  is.   I suspect it might be something less expensive than Tru Ivory unless there is a herd of elephants wandering around the country side that I havent heard about before.    ;D

I feel a bit better about my USFA Sheriffs model I paid more money for about 1 year ago.  It has Tru Ivory grips on it and a regular SAA hammer.

I, also, wondered if these grips are Tru-Ivory or not.  I would be mighty tempted if they are in fact Tru-Ivory.  Maybe Bar-S has some kind of agreement with USFA to market them under that name?

From the looks of the web site, I would guess that the grips are something other than Tru-Ivory as USFA is still advertising Tru-Ivory as such.  That alone leads me to believe that "US Ivory" is something different.  My guess is that it is something along the line of the imitation ivory grips you get from Ajax or Eagle.  One way or another, we will know in a few days.
Yesterday, when I checked the Davidson's web site they showed 0 Sheriff's Special models in stock.  When I talked to Gary he told me that they had just shipped a batch off to them.  Today when I checked Davidson's, the web site shows that they have 26 of them, so I should have mine without too much delay.
Personally, I am not a big fan of fake grips.  If the run of Sheriff's Specials really is limited to 50 guns, I will hold on to the grips but probably replace them with fancy wood.  I have been looking for a reason to get some grips from www.outlawgrips.com.  Anyone ever dealt with them?

Capt.,   There have been complimentary threads on the SASS webite about outlawgrips.com.  From what I have read I dont think you can go wrong.

I ordered one this evening, hope to have it by next week... but I didn't catch "US Ivory" quotes thing, figured it was Tru-Ivory.. oops.. and the Bisley hammer isn't SASS legal?.. dang, I'm sooooo wet behind the ears  :P   I gotta drive three hours to get it, Maine's a big state, I'll let ya'll know what I think.... and still waiting, over three months, for my pair of Rodeos with wood grips... hope USFA doesn't have anymore specials or sales this year, or I'm gonna have to sell one of my kids

I like the fact that they stamped the frame with the USFA logo like I suggested a while back.  :D

I like that US "makers mark" stamped on the side of the frame, also!  I think it looks great - wonder if they will start doing that on all their guns?  :D
