Has anyone out there ever tried to replace the long base pin of their Cimarron revolver? I have a CA black powder frame SAA. I called Cimarron to see if they sell a standard BP, but they do not. When I purchased the gun, I tried fitting an original 1st generation Colt BP from one the dealer had on his shelf - it fit quite well. These long BP just bother the heck out of me. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Your speaking of the longer pin that protrudes to make a Hammer Break safety?
Why not just chuck it up in your drill motor or drill press and the back end cut off with a hacksaw and a file.
when planets align...do the deal !

I was hoping to just remove and replace it. In the event I ever sold the gun, the original base pin would go with it.

I think Belt Mountain offers one for SAA clones, kinda spendy but your original would remain intact.                        Adios  Sgt. Jake

USFA's base pin fits Ubertis nicely. It can be ordered on their website and costs less than the Belt Mountain pin.

Many thanks. The two alternatives would probably cost less than a 1st gen. Colt pin too.

I replaced one of those silly two position 'safety' cylinder pins on a Cimarron Cattleman with a pin from Belt Mountain a few years ago.
That's bad business! How long do you think I'd stay in operation if it cost me money every time I pulled a job? If he'd pay me that much to stop robbing him, I'd stop robbing him.

Ya probably inherited every penny ya got!

Driftwood:

How did that work out for you? How does it fit?

It worked fine. By the way, I did not order one of the pins with the set screw in it, I don't like them. Just a straight replacement without the set screw. Sometimes the Belt Mountain pins need a little bit of custom fitting, but this one fit fine.

Thanks Driftwood. I don't want to custom fit anything. Not many 'Smith's in NJ anymore.

It's really not very difficult, I can talk you through it if you like.

I'll let you know. I'm still trying to get through to them via telephone to order.
