Just got a copy of Graham, Kopec and Moore's book, "A Study of the Colt Single Action Revolver."  This book is pricey, running $125.00+, depending on where you find it, but well worth the money for anyone who wants the definitive SAA book.  Lots of detail, history and loaded with excellent photographs.  Looking at those detailed pictures of old Colts renewed my respect for just how historically accurate our USFA guns are.

It's a great book, however it was published in 1976 and I often wonder how "revised" the new version is as many wonderful things have been discovered since then, e.g., an etched framer Frontier Six Shooter in the 41,000 range. Still it remains the "bible" for the Colt SAA however and is the best all inclusive source IMO. My biggest complaint is that Kopec is erratic in his writing style and jumps around a lot as well as contradicts himself more than once. This would be a far better book if he would have had a better editor.  ;) Just my two cents worth.

FCK (boy, that just doesn't look right),
My copy is the 2006, 30th anniversary, revised edition.  It has been updated and, they claim, many of the inconsistencies of the original have been edited out.  I do agree with you on the writing style.  They (and I include Graham and Moore as well as Kopec) could have made it a little less dry.  A little anecdotal history thrown in with all the facts would have made it a bit more readable.  Still, it is an invaluable reference source.
One thing is certain, Mel Torme had one heck of a Colt collection.
