How to post a picture

How do I post a picture.  I tried a couple of times and it complains it is too large.  First time said max was 200k.  I reduced the image to 125 and when I tried to post it said 100k was max.  Tried to post again and it acted like it took it but my post disapeared.  What did I do wrong?
