Am I a traitor for doing this?

Not really a traitor, but even with being so fond of my two centennial 76's, I couldn't help but pick up a 24" barreled 66' Yellowboy in 44-40. Guess my problem is I love em' all, big or small!  ;D Here is the 66' under one of the 76's. I sort of antiqued it a little.......

Can anyone recomend a good brand of factory ammo to go with? I ordered some Hornady stuff and some Ultramax, but I'm not sure which is is the best manufacturer out there. I may get dies and reload with triple seven later on, but for now I just want to have some good ammo on hand to shoot with.

I've had real good luck with Great Basin Ammo, before I started loading my own

Thanks for the info. are these loaded in smokeless at georgia-arms or BP? I'm guessing smokeless but want to be sure.....

Pony Racer

Georgia arms ammo is modern powder.

I had good luck with them until I am became interested in the "Dark Arts" and was blessed with many pards and pardettes that guided me in my conversion to shooting holy black and becoming one with the Darkside.

OK Thanks Pony Rider. I'll try out the Ultramax and Hornady stuff this weekend and see how it shoots. May have to order more cartridges now anyhow - I managed to pick up a (claimed unfired) Navy Arms 1860 today on GB for under $800.00, so I'll be shooting more 44-40 than I anticipated :) I'll have to break open the piggy bank and try and get a 1873 model to round out my collection. Maybe I'll drop a hint around the house for Xmas ?? - already passed my birthday this year :)

Just had a chance too shoot the1866 in 44-40 cal., along with a few other guns)and I gotta say it was the most fun I and my two sons have had in quite some time! Once you shoot that 44-40, ya' never want to put it down! Just shot at an empty propane cylinder at about 75 yards - no match shooting, but consistant hits as fast as we could throw the lever. I also got my 1860 this week (same caliber) to help round out my collection. I can't wait to give that one a try! Still working on a 73' Win., but this would be the wrong place to talk about that I guess :)
