Hi,
I'm new in the forum but very happy if i can be in the model 1876 group. :) Actualy i fall in love about these beautiful rifles.
I 've two Uberti  one in 45-75wcf barrel 28"who shoot great and now a new one in 50-95 wcf 28". I will would have the 50 shortest but actualy i can have it only one in 28".
What is our advice if i shortening the barrel to 20" or 22". Is there carbine with octagon barrel  ???

As far as I know, most original Winchester 1876 rifles in .50-95 had 26-inch barrels: the so-called "Express Rifle" configuration. So far, Uberti make all 1876 rifles with 28-inch barrels. I like the long barrel on this rifle, aesthetically and functionally. It may help to tame the recoil a bit, for follow-up shots. I would not shorten my Uberti 1876 in .50-95. If you have not yet fired your .50 calibre 1876, you may wish to do so, and take the experience into consideration when making your decision. :)

Winchester would supply the 1876 rifle with barrel lengths from 20 to 36 inches, in 2-inch increments, so the shorter period-correct choices available to you would be 20, 22, 26, or 26 inches (which Winchester recommended as optimum for the .50-95). The British version of the 1876 .50 calibre Express had a 22-inch barrel, button magazine (not extending beyond the fore-end), and a shotgun style butt-plate.

There was no 1876 carbine with an octagonal barrel; all of them had 22-inch round barrels. The 1876 carbine was unique in its musket-style stock configuration.
