Well I talked to DM a few times and seen some of his work. I must say, both the work and the man are very nice. I had him make me some 1851 holsters. I wanted something plain and in an antique brown. We also talked about a few mods that I wanted. I had him keep the trigger guard low so it would be faster on the draw. He was not sure how he would like it but I think he liked the finished product. I love them. I am really pleased at the quality of the holsters and the great service of DM. I was so relieved to get these and get them out of the Oklahoma Leather Cabelas holsters. Those things just did not fit the bill......AT ALL.

Well here are some pics. I hope you enjoy.

And now a good shot of the low trigger guard.

It should be noted that the guns fit good and im not worried about them falling out.

Well pard , i'd say Dalton Masterson, did one heck of a job for you , he even put a welt in the triger guard area this will help stabilize the gun in the holster, and keep the grip from pitching outward, smart more, especially for holsters with exposed triger guards. the color is great too , I bet you can hardly wait to strap them on and get to shootin.  :D ;D 8)

Yes. I actually did strap them on a few times this weekend.  ;D
I was not able to shoot this weekend though. Had some family functions to attend.

You pards can bet yer bottom dollar that I will get some shooting in this weekend.

Awww, your making me blush :-[.
I am really glad you like them. Great pictures btw. I refer to them as my Frontiersman Speed Rigs.

I think if I make another pair of them, I will bring the rear of the trigger guard area up a little bit to the trigger guard in a more graceful curve. Might make it more appealing to the eye (at least my eye).

I hope they work for ya! If you need anything done to them, feel free to holler.

PS thanks for posting the pics. I forgot to take some of them finished.  :'(

Howdy Joey,

Dalton did a great job for you. Nothing beats a top quality, custom set of holsters made just for you. I know you will be proud to wear them.
You need to learn to like all the little everday things like a sip of good whiskey, a soft bed, a glass of buttermilk,  and a feisty old gentleman like myself

Rube Burrows

Yes, there is a sense of pride knowing these holsters were made just for me  :-[

DM. I bet that extra little curve would look good. Maybe on my next pair for my upcoming 1860s we could do that.  ;)

I love these though just the way they are. I also think its pretty sharp that you put the colt stamp and the date on there also. Is this common practice among you leather smiths? Its a nice touch.

It is something I do, but dont think its that common. I wish I had a Ruger stamp and a Remington stamp as well, but.....

I usually put the model on the holster as well, usually under a flap or somewhat hidden if possible, but yours was made on a 60 pattern for a 51, so didnt want to mark it that way.

I just think of how many holsters I have looked at, and had no idea what they were made for, or when they were made.

Nice holsters, pard. The simple design looks good on them. So often we get all wrapped up in fancy and miss the beauty of simplicity. Dalton did you well. I like the markings on them. That's a nice touch, Dalton. Good work.

 :)DM,
Those are Awesome, I love the color they look great!! I will agree with you, I think if you would of brung the the trigger gaurd groove on up some, but let him have the speed draw he wanted they would look period correct to the tee! Of course I am the rookie here and that is only my to cents that worth 1/2 cent!!
But they are awesome looking!! And as my Mentor TW has been telling me that nothing in the 1800'S was done like production work,EVEN THE FACTORY MADE HOLSTERS WERE NOT EXACT  so who could not say that the Cowboy went into a saddle shop and had a pair made just like those for the same reason the person you made them for wanted!!

They are a great looking  pair of holsters!
I still want to get everyone toghter sometime next year for a get toghter, i contacted SASS, but they said they would get back with me but they didn't it is going to take someone with connection to be able to try to get to use there place!
But it doesn't have to be there!
I am sure that if a person wanted to go and have the meeting at STURGIS a month after there rally, a person would have no troble getting a place to hold I retreat at a very reasonable price!! Because a month before and then after the rally untill that time the next year, there isn't a whole lot going on there! Except there are places still open all year! (just a thought)

I really like simple made things. I am from the rural south and so when my costume is finished it will be something like someone in the rural south would have had back then. Nothing too fancy.....just stuff that works.  ;)
