Real interesting for sure! Nice old saddles. I'm still looking around for patterns and photos.
The trouble is I have a Mustang and he has a lot of Spanish in him. Short back, tall withers and narrow shoulders. Most modern saddles will not fit him. The best fit I have found so far is a Circle Y Sheridan saddle. It is good, but not perfect.
Any saddle I build will have to have shorter bars, and a round skirt. Long bars will set over his kidneys and square skirts dig into his hips causing a bucking that I don't want to have to ride through ever again! ;D

Hans, I ended up with a Circle Y for my Arabian as well. Its a pretty good fit, considering its a quarter horse saddle. Comfy for me too. DM

This is my Mustang Vinny and his new Circle Y saddle. For now it is fine, but when I get to mounted shooting soon I really want to build an old West saddle for him. Arabians and Mustangs are the only 2 horses that only have 5 Lumbar vertabrate, so they both have short backs. Some Mustangs do have 6, but the 5th and 6th are fused together.
