Hello there pards! I posted this over on the gunsmith forum before finding the SCORRS forum. Bull Schmitt already replied but thought I go ahead and post it here where it probably belongs!

HEY SAVVY JACK, . . . you're HERE.   And you are becoming a '58 Remington mechanic.  Good for you.  It is part of the fun of Cap & Ball and the HOLY BLACK  .   I've had to do a bit of fiddlin' with mine but haven't had the hammer problem.  I did play safe a while back and get one of the complete sets of repair parts from Cabelas.  And then played even safer by ordering a set of all the screws from VTI.  Are ya havin' FUN yet ? . . . . Wait until ya SHOOT it.   :) I had a thought today that didn't occur to me yesterday.  The nipples are pretty beat up on the steel frame pietta with the "faux ivory" grips that I bought.  But I capped them and shot it just fine anyway.  Will get Tresto nipples for all of 'em one day.  Haven't had the need yet.   Good shootin', . . . and fiddlin' with GUNS . . .     :D

I am ready to go shoot this thing! I took it apart, repaired, cleaned and inspected it and put it back together. The only question I have is how does one know when the nipples need to be replaced? There appears to be one that was replaced and looks different than all the others. I mic'd it and everything mics the same as all the others cept its not beat up like the others. The guy I got it from used 454 balls and #11 caps....so that is what I got before all my posts on this forum.

Just a last minute check before I fire this thing off!!!

Sometimes I just don't feel so Savvy....lol

As long as the caps are holding firm on the nipple, . . . and you've lubed over the balls ? . . . SHOOT IT !

I got the Bore Butter. Just apply this after the ball goes in as well as protecting from chain fires right?

Yur doin' it right.   If yur ordering from Cabelas and your budget permits it, . . get yourself a couple of extra cylinders.   Real handy to have 18 rounds to fire without any messing with the flask, balls, & caps out in the field.  Good shootin', . . .  :)

Tuesday Evening. . . . DID YA SHOOT IT YET ! ?  :)
