I am trying to go to the dark side, need advice

I want to pour a 44cal 454dia, I found a Ideal model #454, from what I have read that is what I am looking for!
But since I don't know if I will like it, and don't know how much I can walk let lone shoot! Would I be better off just to order a new Lee with handles for $18.95

I will be great full for any and all advice

For me the Lee molds will make between 2500 and 5000 bullets before they begin to go away. The iron and brass molds don't seem to have wear out point that I have seen yet.
Since you are unsure of how much you will be able to shoot, I'd buy the Lee.

 :)Noble rag, I thank you, I would like it if I could find a 1 cav. steel mould with handles, that is what I would like,I am looking at  a couple moulds.

If you are looking at a single cavity mold you must plan on not doing much shooting. I have a LEE double cavity mold in .454 and I can do an afternoon of casting and get 5-600 balls in an easy session. A single cav mold will halve the number. Get the LEE or get the Ideal/Lyman in double cavity. I really wish they would make a 4-6 cavity gang mold for .454 but they won't.

Ace, go for the double cavity Lyman. You will get to shoot twice as much and will only have to cast 1/2 as much.

Let me look around in my stash, I may have an extra 44 mold.

  Howdy Dalton, that would cool, i hope you do! I have no idea how much shooting i am going to do, I got several guns on the net for sale! I just can't stand up, bery long! I need to find a place to go shoot that shoots at a slower pace, between my back and my nerves, and work comp, and having to raise my to teen age nices! I am in hopes of getting both mules ready to ship Monday! I went yesterday in between taking one girl to drivers ed, i went and got 140 ft of 4" S&D pipe, have hired a couple people to install, and it makes me MAD!!! I have never had to hire people to do my work, and then W.C. can do anything they want!! I just don't understand HOW the can STOP your pay with 3 Neurosurgeon stating that I will never work again!
Please look around, and if you have one let me know how much?

Howdy Ace,

My mold drops .457" round balls.  I used it for my Ruger Old Army.  The ROA sizes them to .454 and shaves a lead ring when the ball is seated with the rammer.  I'll send you this mold for the cost of postage only if it will do your work.  I no longer use this mold because I have Two great Big Lube™ designs for the ROAs that are Six cavity LEE Professional models.
