Howdy Pards,

Seems to me we had a question like this awhile back but I can't remember who posted it or when it was posted.  Does anyone have a contact for a manufacturer that makes "hard plastic" or cast aluminum guns to be used either as training aids or to wet from holsters.  I have seen several more modern "Red Guns" in the Gall's catalog but no cowboy style guns.

Though I'm sure that 'someone' makes a suitable form today, the only ones I've ever used were made back in the '60's and were solid-cast aluminum replicas that were sold through the gun magazines of the era.

You see them at gun shows/flea markets, every so often, and are worth picking up - as are the old, unworking Daisy 'Spittin' Image' Colts - though those can be rebuilt and should be, since they're just fun to have...

Sometimes, other 'forms' are made from actual revolvers that have been deactivated/welded, and I've gotten a couple of them from cop shops - but unless they 'know' you - it's not something you can just ask for, as a lot of agencies destroy their confiscated stuff - sometimes keeping the more modern to use in training scenarios, but less so, today, since the advent of the 'Red Gun'.

Good Luck.

In the latest issue of True West magazine there is an ad for non-firing guns which include some old west replicas
of Colts as well as black powder pistols. Dont know if this will work for what you want but, might want to check them out. ;D
I thionk I've seen the same ad in Old West magazine as well. :)

When fall comes, and it might take me a little, I have to gun dealers, that will let me so measure measurments, I will do my best to do some mock up guns out of wood, I can turn the cylinders on my lathe. I cannot make any promises, but if can make these, I will be more than glad to make some for you pard!

WC,

Tahnks for the info.  Seems to me I have seen either a gun dealer or a leather dealer that was making metal castings...but I can't remember who it was..I think he was located up in the northwest

I've seen the same dealer you're talking about, Outrider. I thought I had a link, but I can't find it. I must have deleted it in a fit of organization. ::) Western Stage Props does have an aluminum dummy for practicing twirling. It's only available in 4 3/4", though.

OK, I found it. Here's the page that shows the guns:

http://duncansoutdoor.com/customs_album/

Here's their temporary home page:

http://duncansoutdoor.com/customs.htm

Been looking for that myself. Thanks for bringing it up. They don't have everything, but they have a lot of different ones, especially the new stuff.

I think I'll add these links to our useful stuff page, too.

Check out the measurements on them first gents. I had a cast aluminum Walker I bought on Ebay a few years back and it showed up smaller than my 51. ???  Kept it a few years, but resold it again stating such.
I was buying each model of percussion gun there for awhile, and the excuse was that I needed a pattern for leather. Now it dont work, as I have most of them now.

I like hitting old auctions for junk guns tho. I picked up my Herwin Mulbert, an Iver Johnson, and 2 Hopkins Allens pretty cheap, and use them for patterning.

Well, the Merwin was 75, one Hopkins for 80, 1 for 50 and the Iver for 20. The Iver is the only one that dont work. I have started to figure out which auctions to go to, and try to make sure I have some spending cash if I go. I once watched a nice Win. 73 in 44-40 go for 600. That was only 5 years ago.
Dont go to the ones that have a big gun listing. That brings gun buyers. Go to the ones with just a few guns and antiques, or household items.

I just talked to Duncans Custom about dummy guns for CAS. They are going to let me know when they will be looking to add any cowboy guns to the lineup. The way they work it is to announce what they intend to make and if 3 or more people are interested and order them, they will make a new mold. They're short on guns to mold from so if there's anything any of us particularly want, they can make a mold if someone will ship them the gun. I'll pass on any information they may have on new CAS guns that would be of interest to us here at CAS City. Their phone number is 989-894-6691 if anyone wants to talk to them directly.

I've bought 2 cast aluminum guns from Duncan's, an old and a new Vaquero, with different barrel lengths. They don't stock much, I just call and get on their waiting list. Mostly I just try and buy one of everything! That's how I got my first Dragoon, nobody stocks a replica of it for some reason.

Dalton Masterson

Thats great Will! We could send some of the odd stuff and get molds made then??

Springfield, just remember, if you make 2 holsters, you need to have 2 of the same gun............. ;D

They said they need to sell three to make it worth their while to cast 'em.
