Cowboy Carriers for toggle links. (last call to get a reservation))

While I was off turning powder into smoke and noise in VT, a shipment of carriers arrived on Friday. If I did my arithmatic right, it looks like I am gonna have TWO or Three '66/'73 carriers and ONE '60 Henry carrier not already spoken for. (all are suitable for C45S or .44 Russian in appropriate arms).

THIS WILL BE THE LAST CALL on the CASCITY board for these carriers before we put em on the website for general sale. Folks here have followed, encouraged, and supported the C45S project from day one (and before), so I wanted to give you all "first dibs".

After this we will simply open em up for sale, and either they will be in stock or not (backorders will be accepted), until we eventually get ahead of the curve.

The Smith Shop has done a VERY nice job with these. Gonna start sending em out on Tuesday to those folks who have em reserved and paid for.

PS, for the first time ever, I managed to WIN the duelist (heathen) category (they gave out three ribbons, musta been at least three of us). I haven't won my category since I was the only modern shooter 5 years ago. But I did at a two day shoot this weeked, alternating between a '73 with the Cowboy Carrier, and my Spur Special Marlin. The Barnstormers worked great in the pistols, I played with the lower limits in the rifle, mixed it up with some "laser beam" spicy loads, and still hit em pretty good. Whooda thunk this stuff could actually work

Howdy Folks. here's a little update:

In April we got a small, proof of CNC program run of carriers. Then a week ago today another batch came in (I actually got em Sunday, as I was away). It looks like that batch has JUST covered the existing waiting list, including those very recent additions to the list who have waved a hand sayin' they wanted one. I sent out all that payment has been received for, and there are three more "W" ('66/73) carriers "on deck" waiting for payment. The Henry carriers appear to be all spoken for as well, and are on hold awaiting payment.

Soooooo, for the time being, we're SOLD OUT! BACKORDERS ARE BEING ACCEPTED!!!!!!!

I am probably the wrong guy to try and figure out when we'll stabilize with some sort of stock level, but we're gonna have to take this in fits and starts until we can get enough blocks purchased, actually received in hand, and machined and assembled, so that our demand is met with some surplus to have on the shelf.

I guess I'd advise anybody contemplating a carrier to "jump on the train" somewhere along the track, with the understanding it might take a little bit to get it once ya send in yer gold dust.

As for the "leap of faith", Pard it wasn't hard to do, once I took a liking to that curious little cartridge of yours.

As for "reports from the field", I shot mine again yesterday with some 200 grn "gamer" smokeless loads (Clays powder) and was again amazed at the smooth function, lack of recoil and decent accuracy. I think the load would need a little "tweeking" to wring more accuracy out of it, but I was keeping them on a 10 inch pie plate at 75 yards and a 14 inch target at 100 yards. My 777 load seems more accurate, but the rifle the carrier is installed in seems to like the smokeless powder better as far as smooth operation goes. At "normal" CAS distances, I was able to empty 13 of the light Clay's load into a 4 inch circle as fast as I could lever the action.... Not one jam, bobble or malfunction of any type over about 100 rounds.

It's been my experience that "tack driving" accuracy takes a bit more powder than most of us wanna use in our "go fast" smokeless guns. So, for me at least, there's a bit of searching between the absolute bottom and the absolute best accuracy, searching for a happy medium of "CAS adequate" accuracy and light recoil that lends to very smooth operation.

I dunno what it would take with Clays, but if ya found a load with a 200 grainer that runs maybe 650 fps out of the pistols, it ought to do very nicely out of the rifle as well.

At the last match I shot, I was doing some experimenting. A "fun" load that emerged out of the bunch I tried was a 160 Lee RNFP and 4.7 grains of 700X. I haven't clocked it, but it was fairly mild, not gamer mild, but nice enough, and when run through the 73 or the Marlin, if I simply "locked in tight" I could splash em all in one splash on a plate at CAS distances with very little in the way of sight wiggle.

Sgt. Jake. Yeah, the Marlin liked em too. On the bonus target on the last stage I just locked er down tight and cranked it, runnin' fast enough that I wasn't aware if I got all the bonus hits or not. That target wasn't all that big, but the rounds were going right where the gun was lookin' so it didn't matter.

I had not shot that load before we ran em through yer rifle friday night. it's workin'
