I just got a new Pietta 1858 from Cabelas and purchased a R&D conversion cylinder for it. I haven't shot it either way yet, but I'm a mite concerned with the wiggle of the conversion cylinder. The front to back fit is fine, but the rotational wiggle (timing?) seems a bit much to me.

What controls this part of the fit, and how practical is it to adjust?

Side to side wiggle depends on the cylinder locking bolt cut, the bolt head, and the fit of the bolt head in the frame window (where the bolt pops up through the frame).  If the bolt is securely locked in the cylinder bolt cut, there isn't much you can do.  Unless it has a lot of slop, it should be just fine.

The bolt lock up notches are a little narrow on the conversion cylinders / compaired to the cap and ball cylinder ..I`ve taken a stone to the lock up bolt on mine and worked them to a better fit in the notches on my conversion cylinder ...remember the lock up bolts are a cheap replace compaired to the price of the conversion cylinder .
