I want the transition look from C&B to centerfire for my 1851. But I already got a tuned 1851 so I dont want to buy an Open-Top,... yet.

Are there any conversion to "transition" kits available with ejector rods that are "Drop-Ins" or do they all require gunsmithing skills? ???

I have an R&D cylinder in 38 long/special that I'll be using for now. So I can figure out my BP loads.

I don't remember to check this site very often so e-mailing me @  rvmartin@calcasieu911.com is great.

thanks Yul Catchum

Major 2

Both Kenny Howell (R&D) and Bill Krist offer the bored through cyl and ejector for the 51 Navy. They also offer the machine work.
Some machining is needed to milll a slot for the ejector clearence & to cut the Loading gate relief also some drilling is involved.
Do a search on the Open Top forum and you will see photos of many.

I just did both a '61 and a '51 Navy this winter installing a Kirst converter on the pair. Wth a dremel and a couple of 1/2 inch sanding rounds it should only take you about 4 hours for each.  Take your time and use LOTS of tape to protect the case hardening.  Spend more time than you think on the polishing as here is where the professiional bluing job comes in.  It is not very hard and if you take minimum precautions with tape, etc you can do a very professional job

Walt Kirst did these.

He also did the ones in my ROAs and my lil spur trigger Remington 31.
