Thinking about a road trip to Taylors for a '76

After a couple years of droolin' at these '76s I'm seriously thnking about taking the plunge.  I like the Uberti for their overal fit, finish and quality.  They are a few bucks more, but seem worth the difference.  I'm a little over an hour away from Taylors & Co., so I may drive up next week, look over their stock and take one home.  I'm leaning towards a .50-95 just because..well, just becuse I want one  ;D  The .45-75 is running a close second, it is after all THE classic model 1876 caliber.  I'm not a hunter, so this is just for fun at the range.  I've been reloading for BPCRs for over 25 years, so neither caliber is intimidating to load, although both can be intimidating to the wallet, but I can live with it.

Has anyone bought a '76 recently (in the last few months) from Taylors?  I'm wondering about the quality, fit and finish of the recent and current batch they are offering.

I welcome comments on the Uberti and caliber choices.
Thanks,
Steve

NDNCHF:
I ;also had pondered about the difference between the 45-75 and the 50-95 but went and got a Uberti 45-75.  It needed some fine tuning but i am totally in love with it.  I have made brass from 348 cases, 50-90 cases and even got some Bertram cases-which are too damn expensive and not as good as the other two.  I have used BP and the rifle performs very well but my rifle seems to like 2400 the best.  Sooo, what you do is up to you.  The choice may be difficult but I, for one, am glad I went the way I did.

Hope this is of a little help.  ;)

Taylors is a first class outfit, run by top drawer folks!  You can't go wrong.  My recommendation as to caliber would be 45-75 (traditional) or 45-60 (easy to live with!).  That said, a fella should have what rings his chimes! ;D

Caliber choice is a tough decision.  The .45-75 is probably more practical than a .50-95 and a little easier on the wallet.  But then there is the mystique of a .50 that's hard to beat.  I only shoot BP, none of that smokey-less stuff for me.  I still think its just a passing fad  ;)

I'd really like to hear from Uberti .50-95 owners about the accuracy of their rifles.  Can the .50-95 be made to shoot into 2" at 100 yards with BP?

How about Uberti .45-75 accuracy with BP?  What can be reasonably expected.

Thanks,
Steve

Kinda quiet around these parts.  Me and two pards are taking a trip to Taylors & Co. on Tuesday.  I plan to come home with either a .45-75 or a .50-95, still haven't decided which yet.

Still looking for input/comments on the .50-95.

I'm not far from taylor's either.  great folk work there and they are happy to show you any thing you want to look at.
Last time I was there and it's been a few years. They would not sell from the shop to an individual. Might want to call first.
I got my 76 about 6 months through taylor's great weapon, love it.  I got mine in 45-60 so I could trim down and use 45-70 brass for it.  Good luck

Recommend you give them a call.  They have a very small showroom but they are not a gun store and (1) may not have the rifle you want in stock and (2) may not be able to provide it to you directly.  Every cartridge gun I've gotten from them I've had to have sent to a dealer (and I'm from Virginia).

Good folks to work with, but I'd check and make sure they can let you take one out the door with you before you make a trip for nothing.  On the other hand, if they have several in stock, you may be able to select the one you want, even if they have to ship it to a dealer near you.

I've been e-mailing with Tammy at Taylors.  She told me they have .50-95s in stock, but I didn't ask about other calibers.  I also asked about sales at the shop.  I plan to go up tomorrow (Tuesday) to look over their inventory and pick one out.  She said they have a local FFL dealer who is on-call to come over and handle direct transactions.  I'm checking with her today to make sure he will be available when I come up.
