Is there any of you fellas using the real black powder by Goex in the .38 Special brass? What cast bullet mold are you using and which granulation is working for ya in the .38 special? I like ta cast my own when possible.

Many thanks,

X Horse Pen

I shoot Goex 2 ff in my RM Navy Conversions. 38's

Pour my own using DD's six cavity mold for the Snake Bite bullets.
Sized out to .358
Pan lube with a beeswax and Crisco mix.
Load with 18 gr of the black magic and   BOOM BANG FLAME SMOKE. :o :o

Shoots well , clean up fine . No complaints. Works for me.

HorsePen Henry,
I use Springfield Slim's snakebite bullet with 3F. Works great for me. As Dutchy said you can get the mould for the snakebite bullet from Dick Dastardly.

I am using Parsons Pills 158 with BP lube (his home grown variety)

3f of schuetzen or goex - 1.3cc in lee dippers - roughly equiv to 18 grains

When it is hot I have no issues, when it is cold sometimes need to wipe down every 3-4 stages

His bullets are sweet!!

Dutchy,
I'm using approx. by volume 18 grs. of Goex or Schuetzen with no wad or card. I just make sure the powder is compressed by the bullet about 1/16 to 1/8". Also I should note that I shoot this load in my Ruger New Vaquero. I don't have an open top in 38. I do have an 1860 RM in 44 Colt. Forgot which forum I was in.

I use 18 to 18.5 GOEX 2F, a card and the RCBS 38-140-CM sized about 359 with SPG in my R-Ms and Uberti Yellow-Boy.

i load nothing but Goex Black powder in my 38's and 357's cast my own bollits 158 grain. Almost fill the case (using a Lee Progressive 1000) with a little compression. The work great, no filler, no card, just a well lubed bollit. Use the clear no ammonia window cleaner to clean up the gun after. Slick as you please. ;D
