What a difference a mere 0.001" makes in a Browning 92.

Howdy Pards,

I shot the season opener at my home club, Rock River Regulators at Beloit, WI.  Had some more trouble with stovepiping rounds.  Since I'd read that the distance between the feed rails could be the culprit, I put a Ten Thousandths thick brass shim under the right hand rail on my Browning 92.  Then, I took the dirty gun out to the wood pile and riddled the but end of a Two foot oak log.  Nary a bobble.  Fed perfect.

So, there is an easy fix to the stovepiping problem with 92s.

Dang, I hate it when that decimal slips around.  It really hurts when it's dollars and I'm on the short end.

Yup Springfield Slim, you found my typo.

I bought some Ten Thousandths thick shim stock, cut a piece to fit, drilled a hole in it and bolted it in place under the rail.  Presto, my stovepipe problems promptly went away.

Now, I want to know why Remington makes their 44 Magnum brass with such thick rims. . . .

Some of my shell holders don't like Rem brass.  It's a mite thicker.

Yup Slim,

I kin read a mike but I don't always get it writ down rite.  FWIW, that fix allows me to run the lil Browning 92 44 Magnum at any speed and it don't bobble.  I still don't dare short stroke it, not as in "gamer", cuz 92s like to put a round under the lifter.  If that happens I've got to take the tube apart and dump everything out the front.

Anyway, the shim made all the difference.  Now, I'm going to take all the parts that touch the ammo and tumble 'em in DD Ceramic Porcelain Tumbling media to really smooth 'em up.  Last thing I'm going to do is put a lighter spring in the ejector.

Howdy Pards,

I was worried about my Browning 92.  Homespun gunsmithing can lead to hickups.  Well Pukin' Dog, Rotten Redeye Randy and myownself shot the opener at Ripon yesterday.  I took a spare B92 along just in case my home made gunsmithing was a disaster.

Ok, cut to the chase.  We ran the whole match clean (except for one dumb procedural) and never a bobble from my prime shooter.  The little B92 ran like a champ.  No problems and NO MORE STOVEPIPES.  All rounds fed well, shot well and hit where they were sent.

Now, if I can only keep the script workin' for BPGF. . . .

It was jolly fun.

P.S.  Here's my brass Three hours after the match. . .
