Looks like Herbert Houze (former curator at Cody Museum) has an interesting new book out that involves primary sources. May have to order this one!  ;)

Well, I received the book last week and have read it. Granted, Schuyler, Hartley & Graham were not the only jobber/retailer that sold guns to the West, but they were certainly the largest and their records are a fascinating microcosm of just what guns were sold/used out West. Sorry to rain on the parade, but they were not all Winchesters & Colts, boys & girls.  ;)  The records of S.,H. & G. are meticulous and even in some place record weights, barrel lengths, AND serial #'s of Sharps rifles!!  :o

I heartily recommend this book 100% as it is not historical speculation or theory but a primary historical source with facts that do not lie. Buy it.  ;)

Following on from the topic of Black Powder Buffalo guns, I've gone ahead and ordered one today.
Thanks Fox Creek.
If I'm not satisfied, I'm comming to you for a refund.

Boot, actually the book confirms what you already know in that shooters then were just like shooters today. Some bought old antiquated junk and others bought top notch.  ;)  For most the book is a "sterile" read as it's mainly just ledger records. For those interested in primary sources it's a gold mine.  ;)

It arrived yesterday, but I haven't had chance to study it yet.

Thanks again.
