I hadn't worked on it for over a week, just different things going on, and i was a little upset that i couldn't get as many bullet loops as I wanted.  I made a lot of mistakes, but i think i got so excited that I got in a hurry. i am going to take a great deal of time on my next one.

Thanks to all for the HELP!

Howdy Ace  ;D

Will pard you got through with your first holster and gun belt , and learned a whole lot doing it , this being your first rig , you did a fine job, and you should be proud of youself, the next one will be easier and more fun too, because now you have a better idea of how things work , and what you have to do to make things the way you want. Good job Ace  ::) 8)

Ten Wolves, you are right! My wife called me just a while ago, and said that Books A millon in Joplin didn't have my book :'(
So I quess I will try and order it threw Amazon. I want to make a Mexican Double Strong, and I don't have a clue of what the holster looks like! I am going to make it a skirt holster with a strap around or a thronge, I have looked at a lot of the skirt holsters that have the one or two slots cut in them to fit the holster threw, and it looks to me, if you don't get those slots perfect there is a lot of pouch on both sides, that is why i wanted the book .
Thanks for your kind words!

If it hadn't been for people like you, I would of never got it done, and I am very great fulll for all the help the folks on this forum have gave me.

Hello Ace, back at ya Pard

If you're thinking of making a Mexican loop type holster , I can strongly recommend Will Ghormely's holster patterns, this is what I started out with, and I stilL use them , on some I will make moderate changes , but I find the patterns to be right on and very helpful, infact I just made a pair of his Dodge City Holsters, and I'm in the old time dyeing stage right now, Your Tandy store should have a variety of patterns , or you can order them right from Will, I'd recommend the Cheyenne holster , this is a really nice holster, and if your making two holsters , left and right , you only have to reverse the templet. I got my Packing Iron from Amazon also, everybody else was out at the time, the price was also good, Have fun pard and I'll talk to you later  ;D

Great job, Ace. I wasn't intrepid enough to do a gunbelt. Next time!

Ten Wolves, or anyone who also uses Will Ghormley's patterns:
I have a New Model Vaquero, and his Vaquero pattern seems a bit big (no doubt for the pre-2004 models). Should I be using his Colt pattern instead?

Howdy Santee

I use the the Ruger Vaquero pattern , for both my new model Vaquero's and my Colts, I found the Colt SAA pattern to be a little too snug , so I thought I'd try the ruger , even though it is for the larger OMV, I find it works great for both my Colt and New Model Vaquero's, I wet mold my guns which makes an exact fit possible .  ;) 8) I like my guns to fit a holster the they were ment too, so useing this pattern does a great job for me on both guns. ;D

Ten wolves, Not going to make any decission on the style untill I get my book!! But after your reply to me, I went on a search mode, i copied all the holster that i like in our thread show you stuff,  I looked at them again and got  more ideas, I have semi narrowed it down to a mix, I am going to make one of my orginal design, it will be a cross, between some of the holsters on the thread and W.G. Law Dog, Cattleman, Dodge City  the Ed Harris holster that Will made, and Russel Crowe holster he wore in 3:10. It will be a skirt holster, but not a slot skirt. One more thing, Thursday when I was looking at ordering Packing Iron, I am sure they stated as paper back, when I ordered mine this after noon, it said Hard Cover, what is yours?
Talk to you soon.

You got the idea, Ace. A little of this one, an idea from that one, the color of so and so's. Now you have your own design. Outstanding. Be sure to post a pic when you're finished.

Dr. Bob

Ace,

The cheapest one from Amazon would cost you just under $24 including shipping.  The cheapest from ABE Books would be $28.  Look at the bottom of the Packing Iron page on Amazon and find 26? new and used from $19.99.  You are going to love it! ;D

Howdy Ace,

You did a great job on your holsters and belt!  There is a lot of work, research, trial & error etc. to get through finishing one's first rig. You can be very proud of this accomplishment. You have gained some invaluable experience and I'm sure that your next project will be easier for you.

You will thoroughly enjoy "Packing Iron".
You need to learn to like all the little everday things like a sip of good whiskey, a soft bed, a glass of buttermilk,  and a feisty old gentleman like myself

Your gunbelt set looks great, especially for a first attempt. If you're anything like me you are your own biggest critic.  I see every mistake I make and no one else seems to. (Or if they do they are polite and say they don't anyway ::) )

I just finnished a guitar strap for my baby's 16th birthday and was kind of disappointed in the way it turned out, but when I gave it to her, she just about turned back flips she was so happy. One of her friends was here for supper and she couldn't believe that I had made it. Appearantley they didn't see the flaws I did.

Just keep making things and you'll see improvement each time, but don't expect to ever be completely satisfied. There's always something you think should have been better. ;)

This is very common. I don't think I've ever made something I didn't see a way to improve it for the next one.
