If I wanted to reload .45 Schofield ammo and already loaded .45 Colt, then all I would need would be a new shell holder, correct?  The .45 colt dies should work and a 200 grain bullet will work as well.

The 45 Colt crimp die may not work as the Schofield is shorter. If ya don't want to buy another and you are cheap like me you can take the grinder to the end of the die and shorten it, just remember to take the dremel tool and add some flare on the inside of the die to keep from crushing the edge of the brass.

I am now loading the Scofield brass for my Rugers. Bought the Lee dies. I can't tell the
difference between the crimp of the bullet seating die and or the factory crimp die.
I am also usinb the 200 gr big lube bullet. Regards, TJ

I think what Little Rooster and Springfield Slim say are correct.

Slim, I think I already know what the answer will be, but what bullett are you using on the Schoefield round? and have you clocked them?

lR, I'm using a 200g RNFP in Schofields. The original loading was a 230g, IIRC. Any brand shell holder for the 44-40/38-40 should work for the Schofields.  I have a set of the caliber specific LEE dies and a set of the Hornady's for .45 Colt. the Hornady's will adjust down far enough to crimp the Schofield's with out any "machine" work.................Buck 8) ::) ;)
I might be slow, but I'm mostly accurate.....

thanks Buck.... some one we know'd tried some 45sc. Rounds recently and liked the way they handled

I have my Dillon 550 set up for Schofield and use a 45acp Lee die (taper) to crimp with.

Howdy

As has been said, some brands of 45 Colt crimp dies may or may not seat deep enough to crimp the 45 Schofield. Personally, I like to keep my die settings and don't like to change them back and forth very much. When I load 45 Schofield I use a set of Hornady 45 Colt dies that I keep set for 45 Schofield. I use the J/P 45-200 grain bullet over around 28 grains of FFg IIRC.
That's bad business! How long do you think I'd stay in operation if it cost me money every time I pulled a job? If he'd pay me that much to stop robbing him, I'd stop robbing him.

Ya probably inherited every penny ya got!

not that fortunate to have many sets of dies.  however I just sized a handful of schofields with a Lee .45 colt die using a #11 shell holder.  I may have to break out my Dillion dies and see if they will be more suitable for the balance of the process..Now back to the bulletts.

I was looking at Midway's flyer for April and they advertise Cowboy dies for 45LC/Schofield, so I am going to try out my Carbide RCBS .45 Colt dies before shelling out cash for a new set of dies.  Driftwood, I know what you mean.  I like doing the same thing but I only have about 200 empty .45 Schofield cases at the moment and just want to experiment.
