Cochran Revolving Turret .40 caliber

A very rare Cochran Revolving Turret 2nd type .40 caliber rifle. Only about 200 made circa 1835. Serial number 141.

I can see why only 200 were made.  That is one funky looking gun.  I am trying to picture the sabbard that might fit in.  It appears that the "magazine comes out and you could just slap another loaded one in its place.  Thanks for sharing the pictures.

That is facinating. Makes me wonder if that magazine inspired the Lewis Gun of WWI times?

Check out a Porter Turret rifle, an early lever action.   I read a blurb somewhere on the web that I have searched to confirm with no results that Porter was trying to sell his rifle to the Army, while doing a demonstration, he experienced a chain fire and was killed, and he didn't get the army contract.   If anyone knows if it is true, I would love to know.  Also, in looking at the design of the Porter, I have often wondered if Henry, of the Volcanic arms fame didn't work for Porter as well.   Wish I could have a time machine!!!
