Has anyone worked on one of these? Flint, are you out there? The Uberti bolt does NOT fit the 2nd Gen. F series. Hellgate? Need feedback.

I've owned one for 30 years I've broken the trigger spring twice in those years I modified Colt 73 springs.
Today I have 3 ...the above 1860 , another 60 and a 51 Navy neither of these have had issues.

The 30 year old one has an R&D Cylinder these days

FCK,
As you know, I have been accused of being a "cheapskate"  ;D so I have never owned but only fondled a 2nd Gen Colt therefore I have no experience with quality (and therefore expensive) guns. I'll probably figure out on my deathbed that "I shoulda gone for quality all along but now it's too late". I wish I could answer your question but i just plain don't know. I am however, HONORED that you would ask me.

Since I have 14+ guns, I've been called the Imelda Marcos of Cap&Ball. Now, that's a COMPLIMENT!

I've used DGW replacement parts in a 1st generation Navy Colt. I don't recall any fitting. I'm sure it was just a generic replacement bolt for 1860 Colt, which fits many guns.

I am trying to find replacement parts for an original 1851. All of the parts I  have gotten from various places are definitly "some assembly required". I have yet to find a replacement bolt that is even close. Pietta, Uberti and SAA parts don't fit. The SAA being the closest but still would require extensive modification.

fox, i have collected the whole series of colt 2nd gen. pistols. they are the best as far as i'm concerned. i have helped several of my freinds get them and everyone of them has told me they now only shoot the 2nd gen.there around and are worth the extra money. since i  have seveal of each one i have shot every model. you pay more for them but i wouldn't go to the other makes for anything. kurt250

Well, I located some 2nd Gen. parts on the Internet but he wants $29.95 for a hand & bolt respectively!!  :o

Dr. Bob

I have both  a 51 Navy and a 60 Army 2nd Gen Colt, but have not had to replace the bolt in either one, so the difference hadn't occurred to me.  I could disassemble them and compare the parts to Uberti and Colt for interchangability.  $29.95 is cheaper than real Colt SAA parts, incidently, a Colt bolt is now over $40.00 I believe.

I did replace the bolt in a 3rd gen Signature Series, and an Uberti bolt fit.

What is different about the Uberti bolt that it won't fit in your 2nd Gen?

I havent had to replace a bolt on any of my 2nd gens ..... yet; but have replaced a hand and loading lever with Uberti replacements from VTI.  Both fit perfectly, and the hand only required the slightest amount of filing to time it perfectly.  Replacing the hands in Ubertis required more fittiing.

I have replaced the bolt in a couple Piettas and a Uberti.  In all instances, they needed quite a bit of filing to fit and time properly.

The Uberti bolt has a shorter table on the bolt tab end. Ironically my gunsmith tried the Uberti bolt today and no dice. I was there & watched the whole thing. The Uberti hand did seem to fit, but alas I need a new bolt as some Einstein screwed with the bolt before I bought it.  :'(

Yes, he's the one I e-mailed the other day and replied that he had some. I'm going to send it to "Rifle" here on CAS City as he's a genius with cap 'n balls and he said he had many old bolts to improvise.

P.S. coltparts.com  quoted me $24.95 for the bolt.
