Six Shot

Howdy,

I just joined GAF (North Atlantic Division). That's right, another damned Yankee!!! I've been shooting CAS/SASS for the past two years and heard about GAF in this month's Cowboy Chronicle. I usually shoot in the "modern" or "49er" category but occasionally I shoot 1858 Remi's and an 1860 Henry or 1860 Colt Army's and a Spencer in the "classic cowboy" category dressed as either a Union infantry colonel or Berdan Sharpshooter particulay when its a blackpowder shoot. I was wondering if the North Atlantic Division is hosting or planning any GAF sanctioned shoots this year and if so where and when. Can someone explain to me what and how postal matches work? and how to qualify for marksman medals independently?

Welcome to our mess (a group of troops who eat together in the field...sorta like the officer's or enlisted clubs), sir!
Ride to the sound of the guns, but watch out for bushwhackers! Godspeed to all in harm's way in the defense of Freedom! God Bless America!

Hi 6shot,
I'm glad you asked, especially since the registration for the spring postal match started the first of the month and I forgot to announce it.

The way the postal match works is this:
You register with me at cnp@nctc.net. I waive the $5 entry fee if everything is done on line. You download the targets from the official GAF website http://www.grandarmyofthefrontier.org/ Shoot 5 shots from each of 4 positions (standing, kneeling, sitting, and prone) at 4 seperate targets at the prescribed distance (50 yds for the rifle, 15 for the handgun) then mail me the targets (in this case before May 31). The placings are announced here in The Barracks.
I remain, Your Ob'd Servant,

"Union infantry colonel"? Oh, lovely, probably another pair of straps who can't march a latrine detail from the guard house to the end of the company street without getting lost...

Oh, my goodness, did I say that out loud?

Sir, welcome to the camp, Sir!

Gentlemen, thank you for the warm reception. Colonel, sir, I appreciate the explanation about "postal shoots". I will attempt to register on-line shortly. Frenchie, I'm 1/4 French-Canadian myself although I won't divulge that fact to many! LOL!!!!  :-X

Nor should you. People have a hard time dealing with the envy they feel toward those who are blessed with French-Canadianhood.

And I'll no open a can of haggis about the envy cast upon lesser mortals in the presence of a member of the clan McMillan, finest men to draw breath to breast. ;)  But we are a gracious breed and allow a man their illusions.  ;D

Every time I say something like that in the hearing of My Lovely Bride, I get that "You are so full of it" look. Looks like this ---->
