In Packing Iron the author uses terms like "bridle leather" and "skirting leather".  Could somebody tell me how that relates to the more  familiar "6 oz", "9oz" etc.?   Thanks from a newbie.

An interesting thought for a thread and I will carry it some further.  The term chape is a relatively new one for me, introduced by Will Ghormley.  In my limited library, including a couple of belt books, I had never come across the term.  Another curiousity for me would be the belt without a name.  We have the Ranger style, the Money Belt but the plain old tapered style lacks any specific title that I can find.  Most makers actually use various titles for this belt style, is one more correct than the others.  Is it truely just 'Tapered Gun Belt'?

I like the idea of specific items, parts and areas of leather products having an actual name or term to describe what is being referred to.  A gunsmith or even an auto mechanic has their specific terms and are not stuck with trying to decribe, in general terms, what is being discussed.
