Recently at the OGCA show here in Ohio I saw a book on the Spencer. The dealer told me with some small emotion that the book was no longer in print. He then said that it was going on the web for 200, but that since this was Sunday and his copy had been on the shelf for a while, I could take it home for a paultry 175. Needless to say, I did not get it. Is there anywhere on the web that the different calibers the Spencer was converted to is talked about? I have heard many different tales and would like to know what is truth and what is not. Thanks so much,.....Ramon

He is not being truthful.  Go to Amazon.com  "Roy Marcot" is the author.  "Spencer Repeating Firearms" is the title.  Last time I checked it was $75ish.  They were out of print for awhile, but are back.

Bad Ramon,

Do a google search and see what you can find.  I had a source for the Marcot book, but I left the information in Maine.  I'll try to remember the source and post it on this thread.  $200.00 is way too much, unless it a first edition, in mint condition.

Not my source, but...

The book you saw at the show was probably a first edition.  First editions are bringing as much as $275.  Why?  Because people collect first edition books.  This book was printed in it's first edition in 1983.  There have been at least four printings since that date.  You will be lucky to find any but the latest edition for less than $100.  There are two available on Amazon and they are $150 each and neither one is a first edition.  The cheapest one I've found was on ABE Books.  They have several of the latest edition, new in wrapper for as low as $61.00 plus shipping.  Check them out.  I know Roy Marcot and the publisher Tom Rowe.  You won't be disapointed.  It's a great book.

Adios,
Buck
