Morning ,
I have a H&R Trapdoor Springfield Officers Model . Great gun , love it to pieces but I have a problem with the trigger.
When she is all ready to kerpow...and I put the pressure on the trigger she gives a slight click or advance then seems to take up full again . Continued pressure will set er off.

The thing is more annoying then not as you feel the trigger pressure then it lets off . No matter how I try to ignore it it always throws me off.
Now I'm no gunsmith and the wife says I can follow simple instructions if I go slow ...is there anything I can do myself to fix this 'creep'.
I do not have close access to a gunsmith for repair.

Any suggestion??

thanks much..

Hi Dutchie
I've never been around the H&R but the originals had 2 different length lock plate screws. FIRST make certain that the shorter one is in the rear. If they get reversed the longer screw will stick out too far and put pressure on the hammer and can keep it from falling. Over time it will damage the inside of the hammer as well. If the H&R uses 2 screws that are the same length make sure the rear one doesn't stick out too far by unscrewing just slightly.

If that isn't it you'll need to stone the sear and possibly the tumbler. I'll leave that process for some one more eloquent than I to describe.
