SASS Pard's daughter very ill - needs help
« on: December 19, 2004, 11:19:05 PM »
A loyal and faithful Oregon shooter is in dire straits and needs our help.  His real name is John Gander AKA Oregonian.

Oregonian's daughter Lisa Gander is in the hospital with a very serious illness.  To make matters worse her health insurance had not taken affect when she was diagnosed and hospitalized on October 30th so she is responsible for all of her hospital and doctor bills.  As of today (December 19, 2004) she is still in the hospital.  John Gander (Oregonian) and his lovely wife are having to deplete their savings to help pay for all these bills.  Rumor has it that the bank has taken her car away and is threatening to foreclose on her home.

So on behalf of the Oregon Old West Shooting Society we decided to donate ALL of today's match fees to John and his family.  Many other thoughtful shooters at the match also stepped up and chipped in with what they could afford.  Thank you all so very much.  As I am writing this letter we have a grand total of $1,033.00 to give to Oregonian.  I know this is a long way from what they need but it's a start.  If you can give in any way possible I'm sure they would greatly appreciate it.  This is why I LOVE SASS/CAS because of what kind of people this sport brings in.  Through the love and support of our extended family we will get them through this.  Our thoughts and prayers are with Lisa, Oregonian, and their family at this time of need.  So please, if you can help out in any way possible please do.

I think donations can be made at any Washington Mutual bank in Lisa Gander's name.  Or call Oregonian at 971-241-0990 or email jc.gander@verizon.net

The disease she has is called Hashimoto's Encephalopathy.   Oregonian's daughter Lisa is the 13th person in the United States to come in contact with this terrible and rare disease.  They don't know how she came in contact with it.  For more information on this disease please go here.  http://www.thyroid-info.com/articles/hashimotos-encephalopathy.htm

Thank you all for your kindness and support in this matter.  In light of this I hope you all have a Very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Respectively yours,

Mid Valley Drifter
