 HI All

Did Remington make a 5 1/2 in BBL Mod 58, C&B revolver,???. I am thinking of purchasing one from Cabellas. I just
got an 8 in BBL Pietta from them, and it is really a nice pistol. The action is tite and timed. It impresses me, now I need another to add to my growing collection.    Thanks

I'm not near my reference books, but I seem to recall that the Remington Police model came with a 5 1/2 in. barrel.

The armies and navies were manufactured with 8 in. barrels, but many were cut down.

If you like short barrel revolvers, go for it. I started with an 8", added a 5.5", sold the 5.5" and got another 8". I like the longer barrel much better. Looks, feels, shoots better.
Smoke em if ya got em.

I like all the lengths. For CAS, I prefer the shorter ones but they all shoot about the same. I believe Books is right about the NMA and NMN having longer barrels. Metallic Cartridge Conversions by Dennis Adler shows a 5 1/2" New Model Police on page 63. The web on the loading lever on the Uberti 5 1/2" models is a bit different than the original ones but they work fine. If you want authenticity, you can cut down the web to look like the originals.

Well I added a cabellas 5 1/2 in BBL 58 to my wish list. Now all I have to do is save up the cash.
Dern if this B/P thing isn't addicting me again.
I played with B/P revolvers and rifles in the 60's and 70's, and  was into the NSSA for 15  yrs, as a skirmisher,
but I just can,t get away from "shooting the black", It's just to much fun.
Think I'll have to find a cowboy outfit around here to trail along with. Wonder if I can use some of my C. S. uniform pants and shirts for duds,???.  I have some butter nut, and different shades of grey pants and jackets, along with a nice greatcoat, lots of shirts, and adoptable leather, and half a dozen good hats.  I guess you could use it to "tansition into".

This Is a good ste and it has lots of good info.

This web issue bothered me and really "turned me off" to the 5 1/2" pistols, They always looked miss-shapen :-\
It is really easy to take care of, if you want/need help just let me know!

Good luck on ya!

According to "Blue Book of Gun Values" and "2000 Standard Catalog of Firearms", the .44cal C&B Remingtons were only made with 8" barrels.

It is a very good site.  I viisit pretty much every evening.  As for outfitting yourself, . . . Plenty of western adventureres wore bits and peices of old uniforms.  And carried their civil war pistols.

Good shootin', . . .  :)
Beware the man with one gun, he probably knows how to use it.
