THE SHOOTIST for Nov./Dec. under RUCKUS AT RACCOON FORKS had a shooting class called Range Detective. This class uses two handguns and a rifle. Would like to know more about it. Also could this become an NCOWS class? Would it be a useful class? Could it be a class at the national shoot? Don't want to cause any problems, but think I would like this class. TJ

Well, Tex.

Looking back, our very popular Working Cowboy class started much the same way, as a class created by a single posse, then spread to other posses and eventually to enough clubs that the Congress acted to adopt it as a formal class. My guess is that this would probably need to follow a similar path.

The mood of recent Congresses has not been inclined to add additional classes. On the other hand, should this Range Detective become popular enough over time with enough of our clubs/members, that could change as it did with WC.

I don't believe it could be a Main Match class at the Nationals, however, until approved as a formal class by the Congress. But that wouldn't prevent it from being offered at local clubs in the meantime, if clubs opted to do so and followed the rest of the pertinent NCOWS rules and regulations.

Irish Dave, thank you for the good reply. Sounds good to me. I really like the working cowboy class. Matter of fact several of the SASS clubs in the area of Kentucky is allowing it. It just makes a lot of sense. Just getting started, only one handgun and a rifle. Got a health problem or handicaped, not a lot to tote and not a long stage. NCOWS offers why I got into CAS. It is more like the way everyone shot and dress and acted back in 1994 when I started shooting cowboy action. Again thanks for the reply. Can't make KC but hope to see you down the trail and in June at Evansville for sure. TJ

Tjack, ya'll come up to the Blue River Regulators Range  ;D and we'll show you a grand time with the Range Detective class. It's become our biggest class after only 1 year of shooting it.

After reading about the range detective it sounds like a road trip to me . Besides we haven't shot in that state.
I have shot in Kansas  and  Uncle Sam let me have all kinds of INFANTRY fun, he even let me return from Germany and do it again .After 2 trips to Kansas and several trips to Pat's Pawn and gun I reenlisted for the 101st .

Rowdy & Trap,

Aw, you guys are youngsters.  It was Farley's Pawn when I was in school at KSU.  Did summer camp for ROTC there in 1964 and had one week where the average high was 107 F.  Kind of sticks out in my mind.  Farley was a pilot too and flew the rifle team to El Paso for a shoot.  We barely got off of the runway and stopped at Amarillo and the team advisor, an Army Capt. got a commercial flight back to Manhattan.  Found out that we had nearly 60 gallons of Mexican liquor on board.  Made the plane a bit heavy! :o ::) ;D  We had a lot of parties that spring! ;D ;) ;D  Sure liked those big jugs of rum with the woven covers.  Best Bacardi run that I ever had.  A lot better than the stuff from Puerto Rico.

Thanks for bringing back some good memories.
Regards, Doc
