i allways said if it wasn't for bad luck i wouldn't have any luck! Last Wensday I ordered a pair of 72 open tops with 4 /3/4 barrels, they were to be to me Fri. Didn't happen, long story, so I will get to the point, They came in yesterday, problem is they sent only 1 - 4 3/4 barrel gun, and 2 - 5 1/2" barreled guns, i like the feel of the 4 3/4 guns, and tayol says they are out of the 4 3/4 now ( bad way to run a company I think) the 5 1/2 have consecitive numbers, with is a plus!
Since I am new to single action guns, except for what i have, I have a OM Ruger Vaquero 44 - 5 1/2 barrel, a hawes 44 with 6" barrel, 2- Uberti 45LC 4 3/4" barrels, and I like them the best.
Help me out please, what do you think I should do? I know the 5 1/2 have a longer sighting plane, but I don't think you need it, on theses guns?

Ace,

Any time you have a choice of too many guns, it ain't bad luck!!  Was it me, and had I the money, I keep all three and back order a 4 3/4 from Taylors.  Consecutive 5 1/2s are pretty nice.  They balance and point well.  That said, I personally prefer short guns.  It is a personal preference.  Consecutive is nice.  Doesn't mean anything mechanically, but it's still nice.

Hey Pard,

Thanks for the help

These guns are all extremely limited production.  Has nothing to do with Taylor, has to do with Uberti.  I am sure Taylor's would love to have more in stock if Uberti would provide them.  There isn't that much difference between 4 3/4" and 5 1/2" as far as sight radius and shootability.  Depending on caliber, there can be a difference in balance.  (The .38s are heavier, so the longer barrel will balance further forward.)  Are you saying you ordered two and got three?  Or, you ordered at a store and that's what came in?  What you might do (cause sometimes its a LONG time before Uberti runs off more of a particular type of open top gun) is call VTI and see if they have extra barrels.  If they do, buy a 4 3/4" barrel and swap the ejector housing.  Later, you can buy another 5 1/2" barrel and you will have four guns for the price of two and the extra barrels.  Nice thing about open tops, the barrels swap real easy.  http://www.vtigunparts.com/

Oops, you posted wilst I was typing.  Looks like the choice was made for you.

I am thinking all the old colt clones are in short supply from Uberti.
I recently ordered and received a consecutive pair of 5 1/2" barreled 1871 C. Mason Revolvers.  They had none in stock, these two had come back from a gun show.

I feel very fortunate, I am also darned pleased with them.
