Resizing Magtech Shotgun Shells

A question came up about the above on a recent post.
I took one of my 20 ga Magtech shells that has been fired at least 5 times using about 60 grs of BP to the loading bench.
I dropped my sizing ring from my Lee LoadAll onto the shell and it fell to the bottom with no contact.
Conclusion is that Magtechs that are used to shoot BP do not need to be resized.

I think the accepted sizing diameter for 12 gauge is about .805 or 6.  My Husqvarna underlever is tighter, much closer to .802.

I just unwrapped a MEC SIZEMASTER from under the tree.  Has anyone tried the Sizemaster on Magtechs?

Howdy Pards,

I've got one of 'em MEC collet squeezers (Super Sizer) rigs on my bench top drill press.  I use it to hold shells whilst I spin down a nice roll crimp.  It don't size the entire shell, just the part in the collet.  I turn my shells around nose down and size that end also if they come out big enough to stick in my tight chambered 311 20ga.

I've got interchangeable collets for 10ga, 12ga, 16ga, 20ga and 410ga.  This rig works great as a clamp to hold shells very steady for roll crimping.  I use roll crimps on almost of my reloaded shot shells now simply because I like the consistent way they hold till the pressure builds up on ignition.  They shoot great and pattern great.

DD;  I tried to size a magtech case with the SIZEMASTER.  Seemed to work; first right end up, and then right end down.

What about the middle that doesn't seem to have been sized at all?   Also, the top of the collet seems to leave a bit of a crease on the brass case.

Any advice Dick?

I have the RCBS dies for the 12g and use it in a single stage Lee Classic Cast Press.

It works REALLY slick.

Sir Charles deMouton-Black

DW;  I have the RCBS set as well.  The sizing ring slips over the shells with nary a touch!  Trouble is that my Husqvarna has tight chambers, which I WILL NOT alter.  RCBS will not consider a custom sizing ring, and suggested I seek out a machinist.

Before the sizemaster, my 3-4 times fired Magtechs would have to be pushed into the Husky's chambers the last 1/2".  Now, they just need a 1/4" nudge.

I'll try it shooting when the weather improves.

Ok, the MEC Super Sizer may be able to do your job.  I'm going to be talking with Dave Kern at MEC this afternoon and inquire about that and a couple of other issues.  I'll report back.

I just got off the phone with Dave Kern at MEC.  We discussed the elongated collet idea and the black powder charge bar question.  MEC is very aware of the rising number of black powder shooters in SASS and very receptive to helping with any reloading questions/problems they may have.  I'll be talking with him again and will report any progress I learn of back here.

Sizing Mag Tech shotgun shells isn't all that complicated. Go to a machine shop. Have them mill a round hole in a piece of stainless steel. About a half inch thick is fine. Chamfer one side of the hole very slightly to help the shell get started. I used .769 inch. When my shells get too tight I tap them through the hole with the same plastic hammer I use to reload them. Now it's slow but I have used it only a couple of times. As long as I stick with real black, I do not need to size the shells but once every five or seven reloads.

I did last Sat. Took 20 minutes with a brass hammer to round it out to where it will take a wad. Next shoty and it'll be round again.
