Go GREEN - Shoot BP!

Pardon to pondering "out loud"

I have been reading and re-reading and hopefully making sense for the day I can shoot real BP from my fire arms (that will follow the day I get my own rifle and no longer share my shotgun... but I digress) but I had this silly thought.

The majority of cleaning agents seem to be ecologically safe; hot soapy water.
Lubricants as well; Ballistol, bees wax, Crisco, vegetable oil, soy bean wax, olive oil, to name a few.

So other than the lead... BP shooting is safe for the environment and critters! ;D
(In some cases reportedly very good for the skin!)

Ok, so Ed's Red may not be exactly in this category... ::)

Some of this comes from me compiling odd bottles of stuff around the apartment and my Wife asking if it is toxic to the cats.  I got to looking and was able to assure her that it is not.  I think this is just very cool.

Howdy AJ,

Green is OK, but billows of white smoke and the roar and flames is what it's all about!!  :o ::) ;D ;D  I want EVERYBODY  to know when I touch off a round!  None of this mouse fart stuff from me. ;)  Great feeling Saturday when we all shot together and filled the whole range with BP smoke.   ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Were you at the range Dr. Bob or the morning after the Burrito Special?  :o ;D :D ;)

Howdy Athena Jake, and a hearty welcome to the Darkside!!! :)

Now, I'm not a greenie, but when you mention it I guess Holy Black is pretty green stuff in that sense.  I use Ballistol and water mixed 1:10, called Moosemilk, and use it in a spritz bottle to clean my guns after the match.  I have need of no other.  I do like the Marshall's Gun Butter for hard working parts and it doesn't take a lot of that.  The Marshall can address the green aspects of his product.

So, here I am, a practicing red neck conservative and I find myself doing green stuff.  Mayhaps that's cuz I'm an active environmentalist and not an environmental activist. ;D

Don't sweat the lead.  It comes from the earth with a lot of sweat and effort.  Gravity works.  Stuf's heavy.  It ends up back in the earth only spread out in different places.  Just don't eat it and don't let your kids eat it.  There's a lot worse stuff to eat, but don't let 'em lil nippers suck on yer boolits.  And for what it's worth, it's not killing the condors in California.  Never has, except by direct application at fairly high velocity.

Legend says that the old timers used to put black powder on their oatmeal to make themselves tougher.

Um, uh, Noz pard.  I don't buy that.  There's salt peter in there.  Salt peter wilts things. :-[  The military may have used some of that to keep the young studs in line. . . . ;D ;D ;D

The BP we shoot is all but identical to the product made in Europe in the mid-14th century, and it goes back even earlier in China. Back in those days they didn't know how to make anything that was environmentally unfriendly (except for producing more human beings).

DD, I don't think that is exactly correct.  Saltpeter, aka Potassium Nitrate is an oxidizer.  It used to be commonly used on fresh meat in stores to give it the bright red color.  I don't know if it still is.  It's just an old wife's tale that it reduces performance.  I have eaten many "C-Rats" that was supposedly spiked with saltpeter without any adverse effects.

Yup, saltpeter is potassium nitrate.  Yup, it's an oxidizer.  Yup,  it wilts stuff.  My bride's brother in law had a trick played on him on his wedding day.  Another relative slipped some salt peter into one of his drinks.  I'm told that performance faltered but recovered nicely a week later.

Now, don't be takin' no gunpowder to counteract the effects of a Viagra overdose. . . ::) :o

As long as we shotgunners are using fibre wads we always shoot GREEN.  Plastic sticks around for years, unless it's the biodegradeable type that was sold by Balistic Products a few years ago. ;D ::)
Listen!  Do you hear that?  The roar of Cannons and the screams of the dying.  Ahh!  Music to my ears.
