inherant accuracy?

Just out of curiosity, which seems to be more accurate?  I'm pretty well set on a 45-75, and have seen some decent groups, but I recently read in Shoot or GOTOW that I think it was the 45-60 was only get 4-5" groups at 100 yards.

Not wishing to stir things up, just interested in opions and just what are these rifles capable of?

Thanks

My original 45-75's rifling is to worn to shoot for accuracy, or give a idea of what it was capable of.
Based on other rifles I have (but not a 45-75) my opinion is a load that is worked up for the rifle , in the hands of a good shooter, it should shoot at least three rounds into 2" to 3" groups at 100 yards.

I guess I should have asked which is easier to get accuracy out of?  I don't realy believe in "inherant accuracy", as long as you work up a load for the rifle they should all have about the same potential, but some will be easier to get there than others.  It just struck me as odd that the article had 4"+ groups at 100yards and was happy with them.  I get better than that with my Henry and 45 PRS bullets!

OK then, again in my opinion, I think both 45-60 & 45-75 can be equally as accurate. There will be quality differences between every firearm to deal with. 45-60 might be easier to squeeze accuracy out of then the 45-75.

I think that smokeless powders make it easier. On the Spencer Forum there's Arizona Trooper who's done 1 1/2" at 100 yards with a 56-50 black powder carbine. I thought I was doing good with smokeless and 3 into 3". Having the muzzle crown checked and redone can shrink groups by half, I found out.

My 1881 Marlin has put 3 into 5/8th" at 50 yards and 1 1/2" at 100 yards, with smokeless. Other limiting factors for shooting a good group are the light of that day, eye sight, sights, the target, and the sights matching the target.
No hot loads, just loading for 18,000 to 20,000 psi, black powder velocities, and accuracy. Fun to shoot, minimal leading, and the heavy bullet does the rest.
I think the best choice for todays reloader to wring out accuracy and power is the 45-60.

Thanks, that was basicly what I was asking, from the article it didn't make the 45-60 sound that great, and if I remember rite they were shooting smokless.  I'm still pretty set on the 45-75, mainly because the NWMP only comes chambered in 45-75.

Will, have never seen any target groups for the 45-60, but here are some for the 45-75 and they are 1st firings of a couple of batchs of cases:

... the holes and patches with an X were shot at 300yds onto a 200yd yard target.  The no X holes are 200yd shots.

This is a target shot using my load in my Cimarron/Uberti 1876 in 45-60 at 50 yards.  There always seems to be one that won't conform.

The older I get the harder it is to herd all them holes into one place.

Good groups, I'm still wanting a 45-75 NWMP, but it seems good groups are posible with any of them.  I do like the idea of cutting down some of my 45-70 brass to make 45-60 though.  Maybe get a carbine.
