I found this interesting S&W on the german Egun-webside.
It's an Smith & Wesson - Revolving Rifle Mod 1879 - .320 Rev.Rif., 20" barrel, no.254.
Never saw such one before.

Oh, btw, the price at the moment is €14,800.00 or $21,300.00

;)

I have two pictures that I downloaded from an auction site a couple of years ago. One is similar to this firearm but it is nickled and cased. The other is a short barreled Russian with a butt stock.

If it ain't life threatenin', it ain't worth worryin' about.

Unusual guns.  Barrel is made in two pieces, welded together, then rifled.

Forend is red mottled gutta percha.

Would that be a factory conversion, I wonder?  Sounds more like after-market.

Nope.  That's the way they made them.  No idea why but Roy Jinks, S&W historian, says they couldn't forge the entire length, so the rear was forged, then the front was screwed into it and finished.

Came in 16", 18" and 20", either blued or nickled.
