Iurdi,......yes, from the photo of your Pietta Army it looks like you sure did pare down the bottom of the grips.

I think you'll really like the feel of the ASP grip frame. Hopefully you can find one over there, or perhaps find one on-line and have it shipped to you in Spain, if that's feasible.

Thanks for your input about the Santa Barbara Remingtons. I found more reference to them here (from another guy from Spain)

http://www.thefiringline.com/forums/showthread.phpt=197238

And here's a very interesting article about competitive shooting of the Remington in Spain, written by Jose Ramon Galan Talens.
You may already be familiar with this site. Interesting about the lighter loads, with wads or filler, reccomended for accuracy.

http://tiroalcorcon.com/revolver.htm

...this is the English translation from Google, and some of the wording is poorly translated but there's enough English that one can figure things out.

http://72.14.203.104/translate_c?hl=en&sl=es&u=http://tiroalcorcon.com/revolver.htm&prev=/search%3Fq%3D%253C1858%2BRemington%252BSanta%2BBarbara%253E%26start%3D10%26hl%3Den%26rls%3Dcom.microsoft:en-us:IE-SearchBox%26rlz%3D1I7GGLD%26sa%3DN

to help read the english translation of that Spanish website, here's a few descriptive words for parts of the revolver, and what I guess their real meaning is...

"spotlight".........front site
"chimneys"........nipples
"pistons"...........percussion caps?
"bedrooms".........chambers
"canyon"...........barrel

John Ringo.......thanks for posting that link to the new Uberti. I like the flare on that grip.  ;)

Hi Oldelm, and thank you again for your imput. Yes, I can purchase a ASP from the USA and make it ship tp Spain, but the price will be considerably increased by the import taxes. I'll try to find one in Spain or France (I live not far away from the French border).
I have been reading the messages of the other spanish man (his english is sometimes even funnier than mine!), and I agree with him. Everytime I meet another C&B shooter, Santa Barbara comes into the conversation. Unfortunately, they are scarce and too expensive for my financial level.
Yes, I know the Tiro alcorcón web site, and this article too. Google traslations are very funny, but you are right, the real meaning of these words are the ones you mention.
Google took the first meaning of every word, but us, human beings, know that "Chamber" can be a place where people gather (Chamber of commerce, by instance), or the function of a (in a gun) nipple is like the chimney above a fireplace. Nipple is also a part of  a mammal's body...
And so on.

I hope you don't find too heretical what I did on the grip of my Pietta. I had to grind away a bit of the metal frame at both sides of the bottom and then cut, file, round, sand and refinish with Tung oil the wooden grips.
Believe me, it's ugly, but very comfortable for my hand.

Howdy, Iurde!

I don't think what you've done is all that ugly.  Different - yes, but not totally ugly.  A sort of Bisley Model Remington!

And by the way, your English language skills are GREAT.  I wish my Spanish was 1/4 as good as your English.  I especially wish I could have spoken as well as you do back in 1986 when I had the pleasure of spending a week down in Callella and visited Pals, Figueres, Barcelona, and a few other places - and the beach!!!

iurde,

I'm only 5'7" and have small hands and the new Uberti grip fits me perfectly. If you see one, check it out.

iurde

John E. Ringo, I'm 5' 7 too, but the original Pietta grip made me feel uncomfortable when trying to reach the hammer and operate the trigger. May be it's just a question of getting to it, but when using a S & W nº 3 in .44 (top break) which has narrow grip, my hand is much more relaxed. I know, there is no comparison, but I absolutely wanted to own and shoot a C&B Remington replica.
Great fun and great gun.

Steel Horse Bailey, you have been to Catalonia, where people speak catalan, another different language, something "in between" French and Spanish.... This is some 800 miles away from my home. I live in Cantabria, on the Atlantic coast of Spain. We also have beaches, but, alas, the Atlantic water is not as warm as the Mediterranean... Here, where I live, we have a similar climate as... Scotland.
We even play bagpipes!!
No, no kilts, by the way...
Thank you for your generous view of my grip. I also thought at the "Bisley" grips, but... I still have much to learn in gunsmithing design  ;)
It works for me, anyway.
Thank you too, about my english. I imagine I have a peculiar accent, when I speak. I remember once, ten years ago, in North Carolina, a lovely young lady asked me where I was from...
I replied: "Funny accent I have, Isn't?"
And she said: Yeah, you sound like one character of the movie Braveheart.
I almost kissed her.  ;D

The Pietta grip is uncomfortable for me also. The new Uberti feels amazing.

I hope the USFA 1858 grip feels as good.

Well, I didn't really find anything for a belt gun, and I didn't win any bids on one, so I bought this one instead.

Guess it'll fit in my belt too. And my pocket revolver will go in my pocket.  :D

Thx guys for all the info- I'll keep it all in mind, if I still come across something.

Got the old Beals up & running too!

Well, I got scammed for the first time. I recieved my Uberti 1858 Remington today. The gun pictures on Gunbroker were of another gun. I can tell right away just by seeing the screw slot positions in his pics then looking at mine, wood grain of grips, plus barrel & box show is also differant.
Some bluing is worn off
Notice in the 3rd pic, he hides the serial number.

Just goes to show you that it is sometimes better to order a pistol from Cabelas, Dixie Gun Works, etc. because they stand by their products.  I had the same experience with an ASM Walker, I bought off Gunbroker.  The cylinder was rusted, it had a broken hand spring, and a trigger spring that looked like it was about to break.  The guy listed it as NRA excellent with no pictures (I know that was my mistake bidding on something with no pictures).

Your thread and all of the comments about a "belt pistol" got me thinking about a short barreled Pietta NMA that I had laying around. I decided to "Remmy" it up and draw filed all of the markings off of it tonight. Kinda funny that you regained control of your post here, then showed this pistol and said you are going to do the same :D (by the way, sorry for your miss-fortune)

This Pietta I have was ported by someone before I got it and I'm not happy that they ground into the shoulder, but I'll make it work. I stamped the serial number on the bottom of the barrel and I'm trying to decide if I want to "Armory" mark it as a conversion ??? I also am contemplating inspector stamps too, but???????????

I'm going to do the slow rust blue thing with a slight distress look.

Barbarosa,
You know, it looked a little fishy when his finger was covering the entire ser#. Most folks only cover or "XXX" the last 2 or 3 digits of the ser # rather than the whole thing. Thank you for pointing this out to us so we can be aware of the bait & switch tactic. Be sure to complain to Gunbroker about it so the guy(s) either change their ways, lose sales, or get tossed from the site. Generally when I get screwed it was clear that I was "chancing it" and caveat emptor. This was sneaky. Give 'em both barrels.

ok, Hellgate. I'm gonna see what I can do about it.

Now I don't know if I got a steel or forged frame model?

I don't have any other Uberti's to compare it too.

HH, what do you do about the dip in the metal after you remove markings? Do you have to sand out the whole frame or barrel to smooth out evenly?

I could also cut the barrel down on this one, and make a sherrifs model..? :-\

Barbarosa

I sent an email to the seller >

Gun advertised and pictures shown on description, was not the gun that was sent to me.

They have 5 days to respond & take action.

So I will wait till then, and put it aside for now.   ???

The number on the box is #341000.

I dunno yet......... ???

The very slight taper is not even noticeable, you are only taking a few thousandths here. I'll take some pics during the process and start another thread, for all to see.

What other Uberti's do you have?
If the date of manufacture is 2004 then it has to be a cast frame model.

Thx for the info- HH.
I wanted a FORGED, and that's what I thought I was buying.
This is the only Uberti I have for now.
