Forty Rod

From the introduction of B. Tyler Henry's repeating rifle in 1860 and up to and including Teddy Roosevelt's "Big Medicine" in 1895, Winchester made eight basic lever action rifle designs.

As of about 1:00 pm today, and after 25 years ans three days, I have an example of each one.

Henry (EMF .44-40)

1866 (EMF .44-40)

1873 (Allen Arms .44-40...the first one Christmas 1982)

1876 (Chaparral .45-60...new today)

1886 (Browning .45-70)

1892 (EMF .45 Colt)

1894 (Winchester .30-30)

1895 (Browning .30-40 U. S. Krag)

All are full rifles and only the '95 has a round barrel.

Two are at the gunsmith's and as soon as I get all 8 back at one time I'll take pictures and put them where you can see them.

Howzat for a cool Christmas?

Shoot it?  No.  I'm gonna put it muzzle up in the umbrella stand and stick a daffodil down the bore.  ???

WHADDA YOU, ON DRUGS OR SOMETHIN';D

Of course I'm gonna shoot it.  Got 20 smokeless loads coming from Lefty at Lefty's Leather and will get some dies so I can get Cliffhanger or Old Scout or Rowdy or someone not ME to load BP.

I surely lucked into the '86, Dick.

I had been looking on-line and had just asked some friends in the business to see if they could find me one.  Posted on line and had it delivered to my FFL guy just over a week later...and at a bargain of a price.  All others I'd seen were at least $400 more, some a lot more than that.

Now if I can just get the '73 and the '94 back from the smith I'll be able to take some pictures and show off a bit.   ;D
