Well, I hope these come through.  I refinished my 45-75 just a while ago.  Put on 5 coats of linseed oil and then topped it off with 2 coats of tung oil as linseed will water spot and tung oil won't.  Found that out the hard way with my old flintlock rifle.  Then rubbed in some paste wax.  Hope these come through and that you all like them

Beautiful job, Larryo.
How did you remove the original varnish? It appears to me our Italian friends have changed the recipe of their varnish because it does not come off as easy, if it comes off at all, as a couple of years ago

;D  Long John's Wolf:  I used a piece of plastic for a scraper and "Zip Strip" finish remover.  It took me about 2 hours or so.  I didn't want to do any sanding on the wood and this way didn't have to.  i wanted to send another photo of the other side of the stock but it looks about the same as the photo that did get sent.
