Thanks for the compliments on my 1876.  The wood & finish is "out of the box".  The only thing I did was add sights and lighten up the trigger pull, which was in excess of the 12 lbs. my gauge is capable of reading.

Did you pay extra for upgraded wood?

 Count me in. I have a Chaparral Model 1876 in 45-75, 28" barrel and its a fine shooter. 72 grs of Goex 2F, .200 compression and .060 card wad with 350 grain Lee FNFP, using Bertram brass which is expensive but I like it(more case capacity and more dimensionally correct than Jamison or converted .348) So far have taken  whitetail deer, bison, lots of ruffed grouse and one huge bobcat.It kills like the hammer of Thor and I really like the 28" barrel. It carries easily, even here in the thick woods of northern MN, and digests the full cases of blackpowder. Sorry for getting windy and thanks for dedicating a shooters forum to the 76.

What did you do to lighten up your trigger?  The pull, on my '76" was like yours.  I have been able to get it down to a tad over 5 pounds by replacing the two trigger parts and putting a piece of leather on top of the mainspring base and backing off the tension screw a tad.  Am waiting for another mainspring so that I can play with that.  This has alot of potential for a fun-type web site.  Glad I got on.
I sure like my "Cimmie" '76" and it is a shooter!

My 76 is from Taylor's made by Uberti. I gotta say the workmanship isn't top notch especially the metal to wood fit, probably going to restock it. Too bad, it's got a nice piece of wood, just not done well. But hell I ain't complain'n, I got a 76!

Deadeye Don-  to answer your question, I was fortunate enough to buy my rifle off an internet ad from a private party, new in the box.  He stated that the fancy wood cost an extra $150.  Money well spent I think!

larryo 1-  Most new guns these days feature "lawyer-proof" trigger pull.  With a good bit of study I have learned to dis-assemble my rifles, polish the moving parts, and stone down the hammer-trigger sear to suit myself.  Sometimes it takes quite a while to tear down, polish, re-assemble, try the trigger, repeat, repeat, repeat....  until I get it right.
