Howdy All, I am new here but not to firearms. I recntly purchased a Taylors Spencer Inf Rifle in 44-40 and I would like to know if any SSS members have the same?

I have heard that the non traditional calibers have a glich when feeding ( I have not encountered that, mine feeds fine if you work the action fast).

The other question I have regards the fit of the barrel bands, all 3 of the bands on my rifle have a very poor fit, the bands do not fit the radi of the barrel and the retaner springs will not hold the bands in place. I have taken them off and tried reversing them but No Go.

Any comments would be appreciated.

Maybe if you bend the spring a little that would help keep the bands on.  But be careful where you bend it as the spring is a two piece part.  The post is just pressure fit into the spring and I had one come apart on another Spencer carbine I had in here a couple of years ago.
What are you using your new 44-40 Spencer for, CAS, N-SSA, reenacting or just plinking?

Major,

Can't use the 44-40 Spencer in the N-SSA.  As far as I know, the only reproduction Spencer approved for the N-SSA is the carbine in 56-50.

I don't plan on using it for SSS or SASS comp. Just plining and conversation pice at the range. I am disabled Vet and don't get around good enough anymore. I just take my time and enjoy the shooting sport as best I can. I do like conversing with others of like interests and hope I don't have to join to be here.

Yes, you are correct.  N-SSA only allows the 56-50 for competition.  I don't know what my fingers were thinking when they typed that.  Must have been a "Senior Moment".

Patrick,

You asked me about the Blakeslee.  Here is one link you may want to look at.
