Forty Rod

Well, I went against the advice of nearly everyone I respected and bought a '76, .45-60 x 26" from CDNN on their special deal. Just couldn't pass up the price. (Under $800.00 in my hands.)

It doesn't have Charles anybody on it, is marked Chaparral on top of the barrel, and has European proofs galore.

Metal finish is very nice, wood finish can stand some light sanding and a dozen or so coats of oil. Grain is straight and unspectacular. Wood / metal fit is average with no glaring gaps or problems.

The gun has the cartridge shelf and is otherwise complete and seems to work well. Stiff as most new guns but should work smoother with use.

Sights are not what I'd choose, but almost no one puts sights on their guns that I would choose.

Two notes:

1. the lever safety will rupture a tendon if it's not lightened. I never saw one heavier, BUT

2. the loading gate spring is a pure-dee pleasure. I'd gotten used to overly heavy springs on loading gates and this one is great.

I'll get it shot in a couple of weeks and post the results...and any problems that pop up.

I love the smell of Black Powder in the morning!

Grizzly Adams

Sounds good, 40Rod.  It is interesting that it does not have the "Charles Daily" marking...??

Looking forward to your range report - and the pics! ;)

Someone told me where to find the CD markings: they are on the right flat of the barrel right back against the receiver and almost under the hand guard.

Still haven't shot it.

I think Charles Daly has taken to heart some of the criticism they received early on in regards to the outrageously large and proud "banner" they stamped on their arms - pistols specifically!  If you now have to look for it, that's a good thing!

That's correct. :)  The reason CDNN is selling these at such bargin prices is the fact that Charles Daly is misspelled on them as Charles Daily! ;)  And who says poor spelling never pays off! :D
