Howdy Boys and Girls

Every time I go a gun show I take along my copy of the Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson, by Supica and Nahas. This is a wonderful book for the S&W enthusiast, it covers everything Smith has ever made since they were founded in 1857. Every model is detailed, right down to the different dash numbers, production dates are given, serial number ranges, there are terrific photographs to help with identification, and there are estimated values for each model, although of course actual prices vary a lot.

I have always wished there was a comprehensive book like this about Colt firearms, but all the books on Colt tend to specialize on just one model or another. There was nothing out there that was comprehensive like the Smith book.

Well, just in time for Christmas, the Standard Catalog of Colt Firearms by Rick Sapp has shown up. I saw it publicized on Amazon months ago and placed an order, but the books were not in stock yet. My copy just showed up yesterday and I am very pleased with it. It is just like the Smith Catalog, a comprehensive overview of all the firearms Colt ever produced, great photos, a short history of each model, and estimated values. About the only thing missing from this book is the extensive appendices of Serial Numbers for dating guns that the S&W book has.

There are about twenty pages on the SAA in this book, and a lot more on the 1911. Now I am finally going to be able to sit down and figure out all the different models that Colt made over the years, the ones that keep confusing me. I ordered mine from Amazon, I'm sure you can find it lots of other places now too. I'll bet they were scrambling to get them into the stores for Christmas.

P.S.: The same publisher just released a Standard Catalog of Winchester too.
That's bad business! How long do you think I'd stay in operation if it cost me money every time I pulled a job? If he'd pay me that much to stop robbing him, I'd stop robbing him.

Ya probably inherited every penny ya got!
